'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

For the curious: Kamala Harris appears to be her actual name, not a married name. Her husband's last name is Emhoff and Wikipedia confirms Harris is her birth name. She also referred to Jussie as "one of the kindest, most gentle human beings" she knows, which is a pretty personal assertion. He's been pictured with her at political events.

Are these two fuckers related? Is that Auntie Kamala to Jussie? Now I'm curious. A quick search did not yield a definitive answer.

I read a detailed post on another forum a few days ago about this when I was trying to link them via Harris. The posters argument that there is no direct link seemed legit. Cannot recall where that was. Maybe a post on Voat somewhere. It does not seem that they are related.

I was wondering the same? If they are cousins it could also explain why the DA recused given her history with Kamala political activity.

It appears there is some Kamala Harris drama on twitter: her former press secretary, Nick Pacilio, now works at Twitter and has been going into butthurt overdrive over people posting unflattering things about Kamala.

Coincidentally there have been several banned for tweeting heresy about Kamala Harris.

Very convenient for Kamala Harris to have her someone from her staff placed at Twitter in time for her presidential run. I'm sure hell be totally neutral and not ket his juvenile tactics agaist of users spread to those critical if Kamala.

Twitter doesn't even try to pretend that they're not a fully-formed arm of the DNC anymore. They'll deny it, but their actions make that denial an obvious lie.

I think people are jumping the gun on the DA recusal due to Harris theory, it's possible but i don't think there is enough to go on just yet. It's more likely that the 'witness' is gay Tupac himself, we already know that both he and the DA have been hobnobbing around the political circuit to further advance their careers / find a sugar daddy so they likely have run into each other a bunch. I do believe that the lynching part of his hoax was to help further Harris's bill and political clout before the election, but i'm not yet believing that Harris was involved. Just because that would be a monumentally stupid plan for a hopeful presidential candidate.

...Or what Yellow Yam Scam just posted.
