Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Good OP, not too fussed about length, there's no real way to consolidate the drama.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if when it comes to gay stuff Vic "loves the sinner and hates the sin" and just found a smart excuse that doesn't make him outright say it. I tried to find anything to back up homophobia when the story first broke because knowing how hardcore Christian he is it sounded plausible at the time and came up empty.

With how much money the GoFundMe is making, there is probably some Facebook or Discord group going through all the names of the donators to try and dox them.

It's only a matter of time before the group gets leaked.

So this is the lady responsible for all that awful translation. Geez, talk about not knowing your audience. People would watch Dragon Maid for the tits and comedy, not feminist jargon.
Dragon Maid is actually pretty popular among the tumblr crowd because muh lesbian subtext. The Prison School one's had me scratching my head for years though - from what I've heard of that show, "tits and comedy" is pretty accurate for that one.

I've been following this for awhile since it hit my radar as an old RvB fan.

I have to say that the only reason this has happened is because of how bungled the response to pressure was.

Essentially they had him. Vic was dead. He had been removed from every major project, blacklisted, and smeared across the face of the internet. Only a few anime youtubers made videos with relatively lukewarm defenses that boiled down to. "i can't say for sure one way or the other". One thing that is not mentioned very well in the current OP is the importance of his fan discord in all of this. the Risembool Rangers had three things going for it.

1. It was well organized and a direct line to VIC. Vic himself did several Q&A's almost immediately when this shit hit the fan and he asked his fans to start running interference.

2. All external links to it were cut via closing invites before anyone else could get in and monitor what was being said inside. The only information leaked out of it was controlled. The Q&A session itself was posted to the Facebook i believe.

3. It succeeded in causing constant questioning and pressure on twitter that lead to the breakdown of composure of several of the Funnimation Staff.

This breakdown also lead to an increase in spicy drama which in turn fueled the youtube scene to keep pumping out videos which put on more pressure causing more drama causing more videos. It was the Rangers that pushed this thing into critical mass territory by not letting it die. If it wasn't for them this would have been just another in a long line of summary executions of white men on the alter of #metoo.

This thing is going to keep getting better. I advise you all grab some popcorn.

So were any claims of sexual assault committed by him ever provided serious evidence/credibility?

On one hand he's a talented VA and it would be a shame to see him shitcanned by a company so obsessed with it's own self immolation. On the other, I've seen him live at cons before and would not be too surprised if the claims turned out to be true.

Regardless this Rial cow is fuckin wild

Anime is dead. Skip right over manga (because it's next) and start reading the web novels directly from the author. The only way to get anything decent is to consume it before the corporations do.

Edit: Just seeing all those pink-haired fatties working in the anime business... fuck, man. This sucks.

None. The one piece of evidence that was claimed to be legit - a video posted by Meepy Gal - was actually heavily edited to make Vic look bad and had sweeping redactions. The real one got released and the accuser promptly DFE'd.

So South Korea is the future of Eastern art?
No, south korea is off it's rocker. Surprisingly, the best animation you're likely to find outside of japan is french.
If you want your anime animated by asians though, i guess you're stuck with cheap chinese knockoffs, as is the case with most things.

Irish animation is very good, too. Though from what I know they only really have Cartoon Saloon, so it might just be because of them.

I think a lot of anime congoers have heard the rumors about Vic Mignogna for a while. I remember it being discussed ... gosh, years ago, back when FMA was really blowing up. That being said, there's never been a shred of hard evidence, as far as I know. If he really was committing constant extra-large double rape with fries, I think that dog would've barked by now.

Is it possible? Sure. And the fact that his mom is involved in his fan group is weird. But so far all we've seen are baseless accusations and fabricated evidence.

This should be interesting, though. Fangirls defending their VO husbando versus the #MeToo crowd: two forms of autism enter, one form leaves!

Well, one thing you can say about the allegations is that there's so much smoke, there's probably fire somewhere along the line. /cgl/'s archive has loads of posts spanning years talking about how Vic is a creep and a general asshole, and about how he's been silently blacklisted from cons in the past. A fair bit of it is likely faked or exaggerated, but it beggars belief for someone to become known as the #1 Convention Cunt out of thin air.

Make no mistake, this is yet another -gate, so Vic isn't really the focus so much as a convenient lynchpin. The real point is the slapfight between SJW spergs in the industry and anti-SJW spergs outside of it.

The only thing I feel that can be really confirmed is that the man has little concern for the concept of personal space. But even Marchi and Rials accusations never amounted to the legal definition of rape. It was that he got really handy with them in private, MAYBE even kissed without consent, but in their stories they told him to stop/fuck off and he did. So even if we believe everything they said with total credulity there is not much there beyond simple battery.

She won't answer. She got what she needed out of this place and will never return. Her new hugbox is at prettyuglylittleliar.net.
She's talking a lot about her battle plans, apparently.

Well there goes the day I could say "Well out of the CA people, at least Marzgurl is normal"

From what I heard Vic was just basically too into himself (bible study at cons, really?), and a bit of a diva at cons thanks to his fanbase going to his head (though it seems to be common amongst VAs), but since he was also a successful white christian man who wasn't properly tweeting the right "woke" stuff, I think people around him held a grudge and it grew eventually over years into outright hatred, and when the accusation dropped, it was finally time to make an example out of him.

If this guy was your typical woke ally he probably would've been able to get away with a few actual rapes if he wanted to. And they would've run interference for him.

Accusations of being touchy-feely and generally creepy go back for a while but are pretty vague and never resulted in any kind of major scandal before, not that that means anything by itself.

Bizarrely, it was only after well into the events of #kickvic that suddenly, parties with a huge self-interest in Vic going away suddenly out of the blue started making up all kinds of other lurid accusations like rape, specifically that Marchi nutjob. It's really hard to take these seriously in the context of the chronology.

Can one of his defenders explain why they think everyone is arbitrarily deciding to fuck with him all of a sudden? I can get "It's all kind of weird but you're making him out to look like a rapist" but it seems like some of these people straight up believe there's a conspiracy to get him.

Like the Bulma VA said he was a creep, you'd think at that point there'd be some distancing but it seems like that just pissed off his defenders even more.

Anyone notice all the VOs involved in this slapfight did English dubs of Persona games?

Given Persona Q2 will be Japanese with English subs only, I can see why Atlus isn't bothering with trying to get the dub actors back after this idiocy.

People are sick of anecdotes being treated as facts

It's largely because of the new Dragon Ball movie grossing as much as it did. Because of that, we got people coming from the woodwork (ANN, MarzGurl, Rial, Marchi, the crazed Yaoi fans, etc.) start their crusade. These rumors were always going around, but a lot of them are clearly two-way interactions, esepcailly when the fans are involved.

That and Rial pulled this off in the most autistic way possible.
