I think they thought a mod might delete that part if the post were edited overall and could use the hash as a reference if so because light edits can go unnoticed.
Not that it mattered because if a mod edits your posts, it actually tells you on the bottom right corner; unlike on Disqus where you could only find out if you looked again at your own comment.
