The time where reparations should have been given has long passed. The grandchildren of slaves are dying out, and they're the only people who knew their slave relatives in their lifetime. They and their parents should have gotten reparations when the original freed slaves didn't.
At this point, the descendants of those slaves are too numerous for reparations to be able to be distributed in any meaningful way, because lets face it; if black people actually managed to get reparations, they'd probably each wind up with a check for 100 bucks in the mail, once, ever, because you fucking know congress wouldn't let anybody get any more than that if by some miracle they managed to pass that legislation at all. It'd be too little, too late. Unless we somehow managed to finagle a significant tax hike on the rich and not have them whine and moan to the congressmen they have in their fucking pockets, any reparations given out would be insufficient, and that tax money would probably be spent our crumbling infrastructure rather than giving the great-great-great grandchildren of slaves money to make up for oppression so far removed from them.
Face it, Tim. It just ain't gonna happen.
