It's all about money. Ad revenue has cratered for responsible* news coverage since the death of the newspaper, and internet advertising doesn't really work. (Or not in the same, predictable way print advertising does.) Not to absolve these shitty rags or the MSM of responsibility, but they had no obvious choice but to use clickbait tactics to stay competitive. And their ratings were in the tank before Trump, and now they're barely staying afloat because of TDS. It's a market competition-fueled race to the bottom.
And now add to that the political leanings of almost everyone in media. They had to try to hide it before when their paychecks would be threatened by their bias, but now they have no reason not to wallow in it.
