That's the thing, he wasn't just murdered, he was openly assassinated by important public figures. The senators who killed him weren't all trusted by him. You had two opposing factions and most of those who killed him were from the opposing faction that Caesar thought he pacified. Brutus also waged war against Caesar in 49/48 BC.

As for why the GOP members don't assisinate Obama, of course some things changed since. People don't solve their differences in politics that way anymore. That was a different time in that aspect. People still had swords, dammit. It doesn't necessarily mean it was better or worse, the technology was different. We also have democracy, which was collapsing at that time in Rome.
You know what's awesome? We as a species are learning that slavery is bad. Look at how many organizations and laws there are against slavery that exist nowadays that would NEVER have existed even five hundred years ago. Humans learn, but we learn slowly. So to say that we never progress, that we just decline more and more, is bullshit. If that was the case we would have died out as a species long ago. We would live in a world where slavery is still tolerated and encouraged. We would still have groups of young Spartans openly murdering male slaves in the streets for sport.
I am not saying we decline more and more. There are ups and downs.
We are currently declining but restoring a sane, patriarchal culture would change that. Roman Empire was also feminist towards its end.
Slavery was an economic necessity in the past. It stopped being so largerly due to technology, which was invented by white, Protestant men in sane cultures. These men were decent, hardworking and smart. They would have no incentive to work today or be like that today since women hate these traits today.
