As for Ghostshell, I think the claim is bogus. But it does show a bit of a double standard, since no one called Jamie a rapist even after an unsubstantiated claim, while Vic got crucified.

To be fair, Bamboo did reply and ask GhostShell to DM them. But I'm betting if they did, it was going to get a LOT more scrutiny than Vic.

Well, obviously there are still shit dubs, but NONE of what you listed was ADV, and all of what you listed was post-Eva. I was specifically talking about ADV not aging very well.

Bandai did Bebop, and it's one of the first dubs I can remember that was better than the Japanese (Pioneer did some good stuff earlier too, but I missed a lot of it because I never really cared much for AIC).
I agree, I'm just saying it's transitioned, for me at least, from shitty 4Kids and ADV dubs to pretty good dubs like Black Lagoon to shitty Funi and Viz dubs. My Hero Academia is honestly one of the worst shounen dubs I've heard in ages, and I watched almost all of Naruto and Bleach.

Bandai was more like a distributor, Animaze is where the magic happened. Animaze was a pretty solid production company that places like Pioneer and Geneon and even Manga Entertainment used for their work, not too many duds came from them. Too bad it died with the founder. (:_(

My personal prediction is that ANN shuts down, Sony will dissolve Funimation, and that the anime industry is going to keep a closer eye out to the West for any bullshit stunts like this.

Why so apocalyptic in your prediction? Not that you're alone in saying this sort of stuff, but keep in mind that the smart and most likely outcome is still for everyone to settle; especially for ANN, who are hopefully smart enough to avoid a potentially ruinous lawsuit. And I think Sony is more likely to reorg Funimation and kick the bad actors out than shut it down completely and let its licenses go to waste - if they decide this whole thing warrants attention in the first place.

And that's what it is, I mean, if you have a woman character who says "Now I'll kill you!" and some studio decides that "Face the power of my feminist agenda!" is what they want on the screen, it's really does change the nature of the artwork. It's like...I dunno, when the Vatican put fig-leaves on frescoes.
"I'll kill you!" becoming "I'll destroy you!" Toonami-style is fig leafing a fresco. Your example is more like that Jesus painting that got turned into a space alien.

If that's true, I'd be pissed aswell. They made him look like he wrote a pedophile as a good character and part of the extended cast, and they ruined a running joke where when she lusted after the kid near the company of others it were to awkward to tell her that, so nobody did

Man, that's... It's complicated. Yeah, I know, this reeks of "that 8 year old is really 1000 years old" but...

For those outside looking in, In the manga the kid (literally named Shouta -- aka, "Young Boy") is a young wizard out to prove himself. He tries to summon a demon to show off to his father and Lucoa was bored at the time so she responded instead, partially so no actual demons would respond.

The thing is, she's based on Quetzalcoatl, a male Aztec fertility/agriculture/creator/wisdom god, whose big claim to fame was getting drunk and banging either his sister or his head priestess, and then burning himself alive out of shame. So... yeah.

There's a big "tomboy who doesn't realize she's a babe" vibe (she speaks like a guy in Japanese apparently) going on with the character. And while she thinks Shouta is cute, most of what she does can be explained away by her just being completely oblivious to the fact that she's a gorgeous and well endowed woman. Her being oblivious is a running theme. She's basically a fanservice anime character in a non-fanservice show.

Now, is she a pedophile? Eeeh? The author definitely has a fetish for short if not comically tiny men and large busty amazonian women -- one of his serieses is named ChiChiChiChi (lit: "Titstitstitstits.") about a short guy and his tall and large breasted roommate, and his pixiv definitely has some similar porn on it. He definitely enjoys his titjobs, nursing, et cetera.

Without diving back into the manga because I'd binge it, the general vibe I remember from her was obliviousness crossed with her just being WAY too much for Shouta to handle. He has a similar reaction to seeing Emma's hips during one episode, and other characters have similar reactions when she jiggles - he just can't handle fanservice. At the same time, again, she's completely oblivious. A running gag, for example, is her arriving in locations in extremely inappropriate dress, like a microbikini at a public pool, and having authorities show up and drag her away while she remains confused.

I got less a "no one wants to confront her about her being a pedo" and more a "no one wants to confront her about being a fanservice character" vibe.

To that end, having her be changed from "absurdly endowed tomboy who doesn't really understand how people see her" to "straw feminist who is pissed that the patriarchy is making her hide her navel" is... just kinda dumb, to the point of it being near offensive. Especially since ignoring how awkward all the above sounds, it's probably one of the best manga I've read in years.

The ultimate irony being that Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is... kind of a progressive as hell series. It's basically an urban fantasy series about a lesbian couple raising an adopted young lesbian, while their two male friends are in a heterosexual life partners situation and their other female friend is a sex positive single mother type. SJWs should be falling over themselves to make it as faithful as possible. But they couldn't help themselves and had to "fix" it.

I was going to go check this out but it looks like his twitter account got suspended

Nah. Well, maybe his old one? His current one is over here:

I looked and couldn't find it.

Didn't Justin Sevakis say there are lot worse people than Vic in anime industry but they choose not to cover them because it doesn't give them as much traction? Basically scummy journos being scummy.

Not progressive enough for woke twitters. Need to add transexual dragons maybe?

The Black Lagoon dub sounds okay, but I think it has to be watched in Japanese. Why? Because Revi is fucking hilarious when she speaks (and curses) in EngRish. The glory that is that transition is non-existent in the English dub.

Funi is honestly kinda hit and miss. They've done some good stuff, along with a fair amount of mediocrity. Unfortunately, I'm swearing them off until they pull their head out of their ass, so I don't even really care anymore.

Agreed.

My take: Sony/Funimation settles, disavow Marchi/Rial and their gaggle of useless tagalongs. From then we're off to the fun part as one is inevitably going to sell out everyone else to save their own ass, and our amusement shall be infinite.

I think the biggest shoe is gonna drop if BHBH can not only show that Funi had no credible evidence that Vic engaged in harassment, but that Vic was let go for his Christian beliefs. That would be pretty fucked up. You can't even do that legally in a right to work state.

Which is why... AGAIN... HR should always QUIETLY let people go. Vic wouldn't even have a case if SJWs didn't feel the need to virtue signal.

My theory? Funi announces they did a second investigation and found the Vic thing was mostly unfounded rumor and blown out of proportion stuff and Vic did nothing wrong. This is part of a sealed settlement. Vic gets to go back to work, gets some money for his trouble to continue the lawsuits. The SJW VAs are told in no uncertain terms that Funimation is not going to play with them anymore, and sometime around this time the salt and REEEs start to flow.

As nice that would be, it won't happen. At most, I expect ANN and Funi to either unperson or blacklist the offenders, and Funi (at least) to apologize for their actions. Maybe Gen retires after all is said and done so he doesn't have to put up with anymore of their shit. But ANN is too big to fall for good, and the industry is bad on the whole (Japan's got their own issues to sort out, like its treatment of animators or Toei's asshurt behavior when it comes to licensing), so keeping it in check is neigh-impossible.

"None of this would have happened if you'd just stopped."

ANN is not too big to fall for good. A stiff fucking breeze could knock over ANN. That operation is held together with bailing wire and chewing gum.

A case about being persecuted for Christian beliefs. In Texas. With a judge/jury who are most likely Christians.

As Nick would say: Uh oh!

Win or lose, this whole shitshow is going to be a case study on How Not To Fire Someone.

Gen's already stepped down as CEO and is now in a chairman/advisory role. I'm sure he's not happy with this.

Nick's "uh ohs!" are some of the best things.

He pretty much admitted they cover up for actual rapists and people worse than Vic solely because it wouldn't make them money. He's probably lying about even that and is yet another of the creepy men rapeshielding by pretending to be a feminist.

Win or lose, this whole shitshow is going to be a case study on How Not To Fire Someone.

This is why companies that are not run by incompetent blithering idiots will let someone go and then not answer any questions other than whether or not they worked there and when and (the proxy question often used) "would you rehire."

Firing someone and then publicly announcing incredibly flimsy and defamatory allegations against someone is so insane that I find it hard to believe any company this idiotic even has a human resource department or lawyers. There are apparently escaped zoo chimpanzees running the company.

ANN isn't even too big to squash like a bug with one good solid stomp.
