Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Assuming it's legitimate and can't be traced back to him, he might do it to chum the waters at bit. If Funimation is looking to settle, they might want to make it appear as thought there are plenty of other targets to go after, especially if they can provide some evidence against them to get themselves out of trouble.

I'd bet more on it being bullshit through.

You could be right. On top of that, we don’t have a date for the message. Was this before or after Monica’s story? We won’t know until later on.

That can’t be it. That just can’t. Why would Funimation’s attorney leak Sabat’s own message to the internet?
Could it be hacked? Being the antipirate ip lawyer makes many enemies beyond the vickicksback crowd, especially among the internet trigger happy script kiddos.

This fucking guy.

If Sony becomes embroiled in this and is forced to settle in some way over Funimation itself, it just doesn't make sense that the settlement wouldn't bring with it an airtight NDA to prevent bad publicity.

If they cut the individual voice actors free to handle their own defense then the likelihood of juicy details grows.

Does this seem autistic or realistic from a legal point of view?

Complete and utter speculation, but Evan Stone is the name of Funimation's attorney.

But as you said, this assumes the message is legitimate.

One of the first qualifications for beautification (then canonization) is you gotta be dead. I think Vic's got a few more decades left in him.

If the Evan is Evan Stone. I dont know if an attorney would be leaking stuff on the web. He would have to be told to do so by his client. Which is Funination. Big if true.

If Funi/Sony is the first to settle, they are in a better position to negotiate terms. If they cut the VAs loose, their reputations are already shit. What kind of credibility would anybody attribute to these people after all they've been spouting these last few weeks? Sony/Funi rolling over and putting out their own preemptive statement could put them on similar moral ground to Vic. They would be in a position to strike first with their statement and then everything the VAs have to say will be heard as "REE REE REE REE REE" from the boys who cried wolf.

Kelly basically admitted she shared her story to ANN

Good job showing this isn't just an orchestrated smear campaign to defame Vic.

Note they are only seeking defamatory stories, not anything to the contrary. This will look great in an actual malice analysis.

She got "sick" because she was taking "care" of Soy Boye while he was "sick" with a "stomach virus" that flared up after the con he attended ended and right around the same time those notice letters were set to arrive? Riiiiiiiiiiight...

Soy Boye here is a con-man that's more melodramatic than a screaming Shiba Inu. And knowing what Shibas will scream over, that's saying something.

It's almost too good to be true. Are we sure we haven't entered the "lets feed fake information to try and discredit anti-kickvickers" stage of this mess?

It would be a pretty clear sign that Funimation is not indemnifying the "Actors" now wouldn't it? And don't view communications intiated by Chris Sabat to Their Attorney's as Privileged. I would really love to know more about the countenance of that particular DM. But the first thought, assuming it is legit, and assuming Evan is in fact Evan Stone, it implies that Funimation would be responding to Ty Beard etc with "We acted in good faith and were misled by a clear conspiracy to bring fraudulent evidence to us."

I've been sick! oh and I don't want to talk about Vic anymore for some reason. Ask me about something else.

Sabat cannot be dumb enough to think Evan stone is HIS lawyer, right?

Actually no. If the plot holds true Sabat and all the others really are that dumb. Stone would obviously have done his own digging into this. These morons probably told him all sorts of things that Stone would have no qualms to use against them if it means helping his client. Who is Funimation the company, not Sabat and his crew of the SS forlorn hope

Well Nick did warn them if the Funi Attorneys never said "We/I are representing you" then its not a privileged conversation. But hey he's just the youtube lawyer right?

Time to start archiving Leah Rose and this "Kelly Onelani."
I'm pretty sure Leah Rose has shown up earlier in the thread as i remember that shitty rogue headshot.

There is a ANN staffer called Evan... ?
Edit: or at least that name was on the rip-off trip options
2ndEdit: Evan is likely the travel agency guy, explained next page.

Amanda was in a dub of an unfinished OVA from the 90s and acts as though she owns the thing. Since reception to the movie was mostly positive, she seems to have stopped mentioning it entirely.

I don't see one listed on their staff page, for what it's worth.
I put that edit in there because i found the same thing. I was referencing this post from back at page 106
ANN recently put out a survey on drumming up money since they're almost broke. I guess this is how ANN plans to drum up legal fees

For the low low price of $3000, you too can pretend your friends with your favorite ANN staffer and hang out with them in Japan!
No link was provided so maybe this was just on their forums, but to me this reads as though 'Evan' considers himself to be a part of the ANN staff.
