Not sure, not a fan of the multi season Anime stuff so I tend to avoid it like the plague.
I'm a DB sperg, so maybe I can help lol
So, while there's a lull, I have a question: Despite being an anime fan for about four decades, I've never actually watched much of DB before.

Can you just start at episode 1 of the original 1986 series? I don't have an issue with 80s anime. I actually kinda like it a bit better in some ways than the modern stuff.
Yes. You can. But you might not really want to. Z is the only series that is really highly regarded. DB/GT/Super are all a bit divisive and people tend to either love them or hate them. That's not to say you shouldn't watch all these series. They're all good imo (except maybe GT... GT was kind of awful) but Z is the peak. You'll miss some character development if you skip DB, but it's not all that's important in the grand scheme of things. I think a lot of people just start at Z and never watch DB since it was split that way in the US.

I'd give it a shot, and if you aren't into it, try skipping ahead to Z. You can decide whether you want to watch the original series or Kai (Kai is an HD "pan and scan" version of the series that cuts out the filler and redubs the lines to be more accurate/fixes censorship/etc.) as that's another divisive choice.

See, that's the thing with Dragon Ball. There's all kinds of shit like that: Movies that aren't canon, entire series that aren't canon, alternate versions of series that cut out filler, etc. It's a bit of a fucking mess.

EDIT:
Dammit Ninja'd @Allanon lol

You can start with the original Dragon Ball series and have no problem. You could also watch Dragon Ball Z first then go back and watch the original without problems. The only thing to avoid is watching GT or Super first.

I would also recommend watching Dragon Ball Z or Dragon Ball Z Kai.

Edit: FeelsBadMan. Got double Ninja'd :/

I don't recommend DBZ Kai. It has nicer art and more consistent voice acting, but it comes at the cost of more censorship (unless you get the uncut version), a crappier OST since they couldn't reuse the Faulconer score, and a Frieza who's literally just copying Little Kuriboh's performance. (I think Greg Ayer even tweeted or said directly to LK at some point that he felt LK was a better Frieza than him) And you'll be stuck with Rial as Bulma and an inferior Kid Gohan. You're better off putting up with the filler and inferior video. If you absolutely must watch a re-cut and re-dubbed DBZ you might as well just watch DBZA. They've got better music.

Maybe he wasn't lying about having a lawyer after all.

That thread linked earlier on is kind of fascinating just to see how often Sean has melted down, deleted his twitter history, deleted his twitter, blocked other Gokus, and generally acted like a child. It's a shame none of the links are archives so the actual tweets are gone, though. Even MasakoX (DBZA, not DBZ sub) commented on it in response to a tweet from Peter about being blocked by Sean.
Schemmel even blocked MasakoX? Wow what a fucking sperg, I had to tap out on his channel when he went heavy on the What if stuff, but he's such a nice guy. Dude needs to get over the fact that he's not the only Goku people like

See this is where the divisiveness comes into play... I disagree, but I'm more concerned with video fidelity than musical score.

I'm not a huge fan of the "pan and scan" process of Kai, but I think that cutting out all that filler and cleaning up the animation into HD 16:9 is worth losing the original score. But some will disagree. And both the original and the Kai version have questionable dubbed voice acting depending on version, so that just comes down to preference.
Ultimately it's the same show. There are just minor differences. Kai is supposed to be more "manga-faithful", but lots of people are nostalgic for the original and I can't blame them for that.

For a newcomer though? I can't recommend the original. I'd recommend that if they like the series, they should go back and watch the original later on. But if that lower animation quality isn't a deterrent (which is doesn't sound like it is in @Captain Manning 's case) then maybe it won't matter.

quite frankly, Dragonball should be the starting point. it has a slow start, but it gets outright chucklefuck hilarious later on.
that applies to both dub and sub.
you could start with dragonball z, but you won't be prepared for the filler. dragonball will train you for that.
You could also watch Kai but please watch Goku's Ordeal, it's the ONLY Filler episode that MUST be watched. Actual required viewing. No plot bearing or anything but it's ridiculously funny considering that this filler was made solely, well, for filler.

Also, if you watch the movies after Z, Battle of Gods and Resurrection of F, Just know that the only thing notable in Super from the first 26 or so episodes (I think it's either one of the two episodes between 26 and 28 you can watch after watching the movies) is that at some point in Super, Vegeta wants to know how to attain the form Goku does in the movies, on one account, which is he has to agree to become a god of destruction. Super Broly happens right after Super obviously.

The other movies don't need to be watched but are still enjoyable, and Cooler's Revenge is my favorite. His name ain't that for no reason.

Edit: To explain why the other movies don't need watching. This is because they're sadly not canon due to Toriyama not being involved in said movies.

I have to go with Kai, because the corrected pacing trumps all other concerns. DBZ was never intended to be full of entire episodes of guys powering up and yelling at each other, that was all just done because the show was getting ahead of the manga and they had to stall for time till more of the story was written. Losing the Faulconer score is unfortunate but that's how the cookie crumbles.
I don't enjoy the original DB's sense of humor so I don't recommend it at all - the brief recap they supply with DBZ collections is good enough.

Dragon Ball is an enormous part of the experience, but it’s also a large undertaking. If you enjoy seeing the protagonist’s growth from a looooong term perspective, DB is definitely worth it. Also if you like fun

What I am curious about is if Monica and Ron have the same (very expensive) attorney. I would think they have conflicting interests.

Also, re Ron being/not being Igor, I took Ty's comment about the lawyer for Igor as that Iago would pay for an attorney for him, not necessarily provide one as such. In which case, Ron lawyering up doesn't matter at all: Ty is just saying Iago isn't going to pay for the fancy attorney, regardless of what he told Igor.

But it is all speculation at this point (I am Team Iago = Sabat, and Igor = Ron or Shane). Shane might fit a bit better if the lawyer comment is literal.

Sakura Con is finally taking its revenge for that infamous commercial Vic directed.
Probably not.

Sakura Con is one of the few anime cons that ever did a commercial. AX did some brief spots around the same time.

I don't think weebs get most of their info from local TV.
I don’t know I feel that Sakura Con wouldn’t be as well known as it is now if not for this ad. Hell that’s how I’m familiar with SakuraCon and I don’t live anywhere near it.

I believe it's been stated before that they absolutely should have their own attorneys. They're not husband and wife ergo no spousal immunity. Since Ron said he'd lawyered up not we'd lawyered up Monica can go to bed every night wondering if her cuck will be fucking her in the legal sense.

Of course Rons legal acumen in the past has been sorely lacking so perhaps he does think the lawyer represents both. I wonder if the lawyer will dispel that notion.
