One thing that I hope people took away from the 2016 elections is that party leadership and campaign leadership are not always aligned. Donald Trump is obviously the largest example of this by far, but it applies to the Johnson campaign as well. Donald Trump doesn't give one iota of a fuck what Ronna Romney McDaniel has to say, but Johnson wasn't exactly working closely with Nick Sarwark either. By and large I think the Johnson campaign did a poor job of representing the party's platform, and he isn't someone who comes to mind when I think of marketing and messaging skills, Sarwark, Cara Schultz and Jess Mears are.
