lol. What? That's beyond false. Japan accounts for over half the anime fandom. Second place is China, and then there's Taiwan and Korean. The US is at #5, and the other western countries are far below that. The west has zero authority to do something like that, let alone to Toei.

I know you love TFS and their abridged series, but you consider them way more important than they ever will be. They're nothing and have zero importance to the industry, especially in Japan.
you underestimate autism, like shia leblownthefuckout did.

I wouldn't say exceptional, more :optimistic:. Japan is far less friendly when it comes to fair use compared to the US which was part of why abridged series got slammed with strikes so often. Like roughly 10 years ago, which is around the time of episode 20, Japanese law outright said you couldn't redistribute any of their shit without permission. The laws have gotten a bit more lax and TFS probably could fight that battle now, but Toei really does not care for TFS and I wouldn't envy having to take on a titan that actively hates you.
except TFS is in the US which legally protects them and with how youtube now handles strikes, they could literally say "Fine, sue me faggot. I've got these two cases that say your going to be sucking my dick by the end of it" and Toei would be forced to either retract and legally admit they were false strikes (because youtube is pseudo legal actually) or sue overseas which while expensive for TFS is a nightmare for people initiating lawsuits.
mind, this is especially because Toei doesn't have a branch office in america to make things smoother. if they did, then the branch could've initiated it. instead, toei all the way from japan has to and i've seen lawyers say online its a pain in the ass to get an international suit going.

tl;dr- TFS is protected because international lawsuits suck donkey balls and it'd be a losing battle, and initiating a strike could lead to them either having to sue or admit legally the strikes are fake, making them liable.

So before I forget and turn in for the night, this popped up ealrier today but I'm not sure if it was ever brought up since it dropped druing the speculation about the stream and KamehaCon announcement. Seems like Samantha Inoue-Harte is updating her story on her fake SWATing. To MarzGurl's credit, she seems to indicate that she's skeptical of it. Guess she's tired of being burned, but not enough to still spread it around.

A lot of execs in japan are old out of touch niggas, ones who cant be disrespected or something, i dont know, but i fully believe in the possibility they wont grasp how bad of an idea that is. also they've tried it before

You're not wrong with Japan being wildly out of touch with western sensibilities. Sometimes, in the case of Anime, this is fine. Other times, as is the case with law and what is and isn't good optics, they're dead wrong.

Vidya fans need look no further than the litany of stupid things Nintendo has done in the past (Nintendo vs. Blockbuster, Nintendo vs. Galoob, their handling of LPs in general) for an example, or things like Kojima's departure for Konami (or Konami's propensity for blacklisting its critics) for an arsenal of stupid things these companies of done. The big Anime publishers are equally stupid, if not worse, and have been run by the same people for decades, so many of them are, to say the least, old-fashioned.

Sadly, Toei is one of the worst in this regard and has done sweeping attempts to block tons of shit in the past. It's not just abridged works and parodies they don't get, they actively go scorched earth on channels that host music from their shows, and occasionally even trailers. Toei has this inherent belief that Fair Use isn't a thing and they basically will blanket refuse any claim.

Any chance this is anything other than completely made up?

Like with Bandai Namco completely preventing a swimsuit mission in One Piece: World Seeker in North America despite EVERY OTHER CONTINENT AND COUNTRY GETTING IT. They also completely removed it for the PC version because modding or some shit. I think with all the screeching from dangerhairs that they think North America outlawed ecchi or something,

It's been said a million times by now, but HOW are people this dumb? Why would you put information out into the public when their is even a slight possibility that you will be sued? Or in a situation that your comments could be used against your employer? Like she knows ALL of this could be checked right? ALL of this is new ammo for BHBH.

You’re posting on a forum dedicated to observing a highly specific type of people who are known for acting eccentric or foolish and being easy to exploit into continuing to do just that. Learning from other's mistakes, learning from their own mistakes, self-preservation, carefulness, hindsight and other many things aren't in a standard lolcow's list of talents and skills. That's why they are lolcows and why very, very few ever get better.
These people aren't dead exclusively because modern civilization has rendered natural selection mostly a matter of being so stupid, you have to actively try to get killed, not just not be careful enough.

I mean, in all fairness pirating music isn't any stretch of the definition 'fair use'.

Japan has no fair use, it's all up to the company's discretion. They allow doujinshi and garage kits because it's good for the market, and most importantly, which is something a lot of westerners overlook, is that they're entirely original works. Rom hacks and Abridged series aren't. They use the existing art/music assets from those shows and games. They use actual copyrighted materials.

Japan is actually ahead of the curve on Let's Plays. They literally invented them with Game Center CX which predates YouTube by a good number of years. Thing is Game Center CX has to get permission from the companies and creators to play games on the show. Often times it's not a legal issue because the company is out of business and no one owns the game, but they explicitly want permission out of respect, so they ask the old retired guy who made the game 30 years ago and has no legal power. It's not about the law so much as it is respect, and it doesn't help how Rom hackers and Abridgers get huge egos and insist they're better/more important than the original creators, like the people who do the whole "HIRE THIS GUY NINTENDO" meme. Huge cultural difference, and no surprise why Japanese companies dislike westerners who pull that stuff.

Power leveling a bit, but I've worked with a few Japanese companies in the past so it's something you pick up on their business dealings and culture.

NOT YOU TOO, JAMIE!!!! He was one of the few bright spots of that crapfest known as the Diamond and Pearl dub, and now I have no respect left for him if this is how he acts on a regular basis.

Speaking of Pokémon, the voice director for the show from Season 11-17 was a guy named Tom Wayland. In case you didn’t know, Wayland was accused of raping a teenage girl at Anime Boston in 2015. I can’t remember what the outcome of that case was, but Wayland was fired from the show and his job as Voice Director was eventually given to Lisa Ortiz. He still owns a recording studio called TripWire Productions, but he no longer does any anime work, to my knowledge.

Well like Nick said let them cancel. I think there may be a certain law firm who was looking for Con owners to start acting like adults, they may offer a nice discount to help with all those broken contracts.

Re: Pokemon voice actors:

It gets worse, though. TPCi's actors as well as actresses themselves are quite antagonistic towards some of the Anime fandom, when receiving even the slightest bit of criticism of their voice over performances, acting very unprofessional in response to it.

For example, James Carter Cathcart, the current English voice actor for James, Meowth, Professor Oak, and Butch, has even stated online under the pseudonym "old guard truthseeker" on Serebii as well as Bulbagarden forums, that he thinks his voice as James is better than Eric Stuart's and Ted Lewis' vocalization, for those curious: James Carter Cathcart Says He's The Best James, and in general, James Carter Cathcart Lies to Fans.

Meanwhile, Michele Knotz, who is the current English voice actress of Jessie, Misty, and May, also doesn't like people referring to Rachel Lillis' Jessie vocalization or Veronica Taylor's May vocalization as superior or even prefer them over her. Michele Knotz can clearly been seen throwing a fit in the YouTube comments section of the following video due to this, also contradicting Tom Wayland's direct description above of his direction, to shift the blame to him, when it was her own accord to do what she liked- see the comments section of Michele Knotz Throwing a Fit- CuteMimi25's Video.

Sounds like it's a common thing in the anime dubbing industry...

Yea seriously glad the only guy I look up to in VA is Bryan Cranston and he seems chill.

Her original swatting post (the one from 2019) said that after the police had broken down her door, they apologized and help replace it with a new one.

Her latest post omits this entirely, the police weren't even there at all. She made that facebook post because her harasser called and lol'd at her, and that pushed her to the edge. And for some reason, didn't have photos of her current door at the time so she used her 2016 ones cause they looked "similar."

It was so satisfying when Maddie Blaustein (RIP ?) called Cathcart out for being a huge faggot. We need more voice actresses like her that aren’t cucks.

Yes. They did all kinds of dumb shit while the trial was pending, including leaking sealed documents. They denied doing that but who else would have?

Gawker was laboring under the delusion that the court of public opinion, and being snarky, were going to actually be allowed to help them in court. Not even the 9th Circuit puts up with that shit though. Not out of litigants anyway, despite their ass-headed rulings. But I digress: Gawker honestly thought that the Internet Outrage Machine and millennial culture would somehow save them. It did not, and the next Hulk Hogan sex tape that was released was one Terry Bollea bending Nick Denton over and fucking him in the ass as a matter of court record.

Yea seriously glad the only guy I look up to in VA is Bryan Cranston and he seems chill.

True fact: I did not realize until just a couple years ago that Bryan Cranston voiced Isamu Dyson in Macross+Plus. Which is one of the few Japanese cartoons I really, really dig.

You know, it really just occured to me.
what if the entire dubbing industry is like this? is it possible that eventually the entire dubbing industry is dragged into this? were starting to see the targets pile up and I get a feeling this conspiracy may stretch beyond funimation.

know it's optimistic but can you imagine both japan's reaction and the weebs on twitter if the entire industry got outed as being an incestuous pit of lawbreakers?
