One potential positive, from my perspective, of waiting for more rocks to be thrown and vitriol spewed is that there might eventually be enough to push Vic over the edge into untying Ty's hands and letting him proverbially mag dump into every target that presents itself. If papers go out today/recently, they're likely to be more surgical and full of hugs.
It's been a couple of months since the controversy started, and more than a month since BHBH came on the scene. The damage, as far as I can tell, was pretty immediate because everyone was either in on the ouster or were trying to not get embroiled in the controversy-- any of the cons that were going to cancel on him did so in the first few days from Marchi and Rial's contributions, and VIZ would have cut him by now if they were going to (instead of bringing him back for what I presume to be "Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan"). It's also unlikely that we'll get any other notable accusations because the accusation pool is already severely artificially inflated with "hundreds" of inextant allegations, and plenty of discredited ones, and even then, I could only imagine that they would be going after those who had the podium to make actually damaging false statements-- that means Funimation, Rial, Marchi and ANN-- as well as those who participated in TI. Presumably, the goals of these lawsuits are to A) exonerate Vic in the public eye, and B) recoup the financial damages from this barely competent conspiracy.
For that reason, I'm unsure if Soye, or even Marzgurl or
hanleia would actually get lawsuits. Soye, to my knowledge, doesn't have significant reach (comparable to, say, ANN) and no particular reputation beyond being Rial's fiancé. Marzgurl may have started the hashtag, but aside from
clearly trying to lead a crusade so she can get absolution for
not outing an actually known sexual predator being unaware that her friend was a sexual predator, she was never in a position to directly libel Vic in the same way Rial or Marchi could and did (literally, her crusade started because she thought the guy looked "creepy" and she had some unpleasant interactions with him that she never elaborated upon). Even if she was in on a conspiracy... what does suing someone who had to crowdfund an oil change accomplish if Vic can be exonerated with at least Funimation's head?
And hanleia may have been the one to launch the callout tweet that set up this powderkeg, everything that I said for Marzgurl holds for her as well, except that she can probably theoretically pay for an oil change if she doesn't sink all her regular income on weeb tripe. But since she's currently in Japan, if they
do go after her, I guess BHBH becomes
Frankly, I want to see everyone who even thought of posting a libelous tweet litigated so hard their great-grandchildren will remember them as the "great"-grandparent that got sued into the ground so hard for being irresponsible with the lives of others that they now have their progeny and their progeny;s progeny sipping lien, but the blowback of this ousting along with the fact that the implicated major parties are on some kind of notice for lawsuits all but ensures a lack of development that would accordingly potentially cause Vic to release the Beard's power limiters.
Less verbosely,
The war chest is only $120,000. It's not enough to go after every possible target and especially not enough to go after multiple targets from whom nothing can be recouped. At some point, decisions will need to be made about where to focus the legal time and money for maximum value.
And given that, I don't think there's much purpose in just waiting. Beard said that they weren't waiting, but that these lawsuits take time to write out.
I take it Raised by Wolves is also a lawyer, or at least someone that has had to write things ever.
