Although it is gratifying to see these scumbags that are responsible for the #kickvic harassment campaign panic and quite possibly actually be held responsible for their actions, I don't believe it is anything other than an anomaly and doesn't represent any sort of sea change.
- The target is one of the biggest and most beloved figures in the anime voice acting world
- It involves tortious interference with conventions
- The scum taking part in the harassment campaign are complete fucking morons
Some random white male voice actor getting targeted and this thread wouldn't exist. They would simple disappear from the anime voice acting world.
Take away the tortious interference and Vic would have an incredibly more difficult time with just defamation claims.
And this thread wouldn't exist if these dimwitted lowlifes had just kept their mouths shut.
Also, I don't believe Kamehacon had any sort of change of heart. It would have taken their lawyer(s) five to ten minutes to let them know that they were in breach of contract with Vic once they became aware of the situation and restore him to the con or get ready to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages to him.
Even if these scumbags in the #kickvic harassment campaign are held accountable, there are an endless number of others that will pop up to take their place who will learn from these fuckups to:
1. Be more careful in trying to kick their future targets of harassment and focus on keeping them from ever being contracted in the first place instead of interfering with active contracts.
2. Don't leave a fucking paper trail just ready to be served up like a present for lawsuits like these dumbfucks did
3. Do it in person or over the phone and then don't fucking go brag about it on Twitter.
And finally, I don't think we are going to see any real legal consequences for anyone but the core group of scum that directly interfered with Vic's con contracts. I don't see Vic spending tens of thousands of dollars going after random Twitter accounts with defamation cases unless they are slam dunks and cost very little.
I don't think there is going to be any sort of sea change until it becomes cheaper and practical to sue en masse a social media harassment mob.
With men there is enormous societal pressure to 'be a man' and let the people spewing lies off easy because they 'have been punished enough'. I think we will see Vic focus on restoring his convention and other income and move on even if he personally has a desire to bring others to justice for their sickening attacks on him.
