reddit General

Have you ever wondered how redditors would react to a bot that bullies them for posting overused jokes? Wonder no longer, since YoUaReSoHiLaRiOuS, a bot that replies to comments containing certain "triggers", has been doing just that since March 15th of this year. Predictably, the soy golems didn't react very well; someone even made another bot whose only purpose is to reply to this bot with posts reassuring people that endlessly posting derivative garbage is okay. I don't think all of the responses the bot uses are all that clever, and the fact that it replies to every post that does this rather than selecting a random sample makes it a little spammy, but I think even a single chimpout like this makes it worth it:

Further spergy complaints can be found in the feedback thread and a thread pointing out the hypocrisy of people disliking the bot but having no problem with the posts the bot is mocking.
Fighting the good fight. Reddit is shit and anything making fun of the chimps is awesome.

Apparently the bot got triggered by a post about depression, and while people are bitching about it I think it says more about the users of Reddit then they care to admit.

That's news to me. What's the story there?
Internet Historian recently covered this.

Basically it was mostly centered around the /r/dankmemes subreddit, most started noticing a lot of popular meme pages on instagram had the same exact posts, so one of their ideas to counter this was adding watermarks to their memes that had Snoo and the words "I STOLE THIS FROM REDDIT". The irony of it all at the end of the day is reddit got popular stealing memes from other sources like 4chan or Twitter, and here they are getting assblasted at some instagram cunts stealing their memes they made for free and actually making money off of it.

Redditors having meltdowns over what’s basically 2009 youtube shitposts is what makes this funny. It’s like someone made a pot that just pastes your exact comment into a random meme image and you’re getting typerventilating comments about how you’re harshing the mellow with incredibly lame jokes.

Eddit pissed away a golden opportunity to fuck with the instagram peeps. The subreddit could have switched over to posting nonstop gay anal scat rape porn, ISIS support videos, literally fucking anything else would have been better than their show of passive aggresive asspain by watermarking their shitty memes.

That would require them to have the balls that anon's on the chans do and we all know they don't have that.

I was gonna make an offhand remark about how it's not surprising given the demographics on that site. But the sad thing is that I feel like it's the admins fault in the sense that they went out of their way to foster that type of userbase by alienating a bunch of old time users while actively encouraging and promoting vapid and toothless content that draws in the normie soccer mom crowd. It was a neat little website when Schwartz was alive before all the Diggers showed up and the other admins started to see dollar signs in their eyes. Over time, the other admins started slowly carving away the objectionable communities (Nazis>gore>warez) that would piss off potential advertisers and implement censorship while offloading most of the blame on Ellen Pao and individual subreddit mods.

They don't want critical users pointing out problems with products or celebrity AMAs. They just want the docile cattle that will eat the astroturf that they serve up. I'm gonna shut up now before I go off on an even bigger tangent about internet gentrification and how awesome internet 1.0 used to be.

"My Japanese friend"

I know someone who got caught in one of those scams. They were a couple of months in before their new-found love started talking about money to enable their first meet. They were so excited and happy! Then I did some research on the person and found out not only were their photos stolen from other various internet profiles, but that their photos were ones that were known to be used in previous iterations of that specific scam that targeted my friend. They were heartbroken, but at least they weren't out 10s of 1000s of dollars.

I think I actually traced it back to Nigeria, funnily enough. They must have had a whole office building full of guys running that scam continuously on social media targets worldwide.

Last night I was marvelling at how sane the replies to this r/news thread were:

This morning much of that sanity has been pruned, though a surprising amount remains. Thankfully it was archived, as even Ceddit and Removeddit are incomplete:

The main defensive talking point seems to be 'what about the employers? why pick on poor chico'. Mods didn't care for talk about crackdowns on employers though:

A large section of comments were removed because they were talking about how r/newjersey censored the story and how that behavior on that part is typical for the sub.

I'm surprised the top post wasn't censored, the one that states that at least 1 in 20 New Jersey residents are illegal aliens, and how at least 1 in 13 California residents are illegal aliens. Crazy to think that anyone can believe that having an ever-growing population of 20-30 million illegal aliens isn't an emergency.

721077

That thread did disappear from the front page of r/news pretty fast though. I guess they can only do so much pruning as almost the entire thread is people realizing how immense the southwest border emergency really is, and pro-open border people failing to make coherent arguments.

"Come on fellow redditors saying I hate myself lol and Doggo is still funny, right?"

Basically this oriental gets engaged to a white guy, her asian brother freaks out and harasses her, plebbit suggests she report him to the police to get arrested and raped in prison, and I'm only posting this because I saw it on /int/.

Edit: the plot thickens https://www.reddit.com/r/relationsh...te_to_my_29f_insecure_brother_26m_is_ruining/

This thing is fucking brilliant. I mean, the responses are whatever, but watching these stupid fucks get triggered because they can't use their painfully unfunny memes without being called out is far more cathartic than I ever thought it would be.

Someone unironically tried to use the bot's reddit karma to try and shame the creator, I'm dying.

Incels and MGTOW comments galore about "what a cunt" she was and "I can't approach women in case they ruin my life"

Except any moron with half a brain cell knows dating in the workplace is a big, big no. They don't let siblings work at the same fucking store let alone two people in a potential relationship. Maybe it's good this guy got fired because clearly he has some maturing to do on things that are appropriate in a professional setting. Catch her after work if it's that important to you.

Yup. "Don't shit where you eat" and everything. But of course OP and his ilk are too stupid to understand what has been a known workplace "rule" for decades.

Catgirl IRL is right, though. No way is this the sole reason he was fired. No employer would let someone go simply for asking a co-worker if they'd like to get a drink sometime. There's way more to this story and/or his general work ethic than he's letting on.

There's an FTM sub where they show off their disgusting overgrown cancer clits and talk about wanting to be treated like a broodmare and other weird stuff, wearing stockings etc. I guess they're trenders because no one with dysphoria could engage in a fetish the way these people do. This person just admitted they engage in bestiality.
