I'm not sure Dankula had much chance if you look at his position on the list and UKIP's current polling.

Best case scenario would be that Carl essentially draws media fire away from other UKIP candidates, but that hasn't worked out. Mind you he has very effectively drawn fire away from Farage's Brexit party - all the smear pieces are aimed at Carl and UKIP is getting splash damage, while Farage's Brexit ship steams off to victory unnoticed.

I seriously dispute any of this is due to a cunning plan by Carl though. Still it wouldn't surprise me if he claims it later on.
