We saw a more general version of this in GamerGate.
It works like this.
Calling someone a dirty evil ist works on exactly one type of people: People who care about isms. Leftists, mostly. Righties know they aren't being racist when they call for Merit based hiring, the left is when they're calling for quotas, Gamers know that giving your tank free gear because she's got a cunt (or an imitation cunt) is what thirsty fucks do -- and most of us were thirsty fucks or had friends who were at one point, so it's a cringe reaction sort of thing.
What happens when you call a leftist a racist? They immediately experience cognitive dissonance. "What? I'm being called a racist? ME?! But I'm NOT a racist!" And their mind immediately goes to try and find a solution to this. A way out. The trick the Progressives (Authoritarian Leftists -- Communists, as opposed to Liberals, which are Libertarian Leftists) abuse on leftists is that they intentionally leave an out for their fellow leftists to escape down -- doing exactly what the Authoritarians want.
Effectively, this is abusing someone's empathy. Emotionally torturing them in order to force them to obey you.
Here's the thing about abusing someone's empathy. It only works a few times. Eventually people subconsciously recognize the trick. Eventually people's empathy scars over. Eventually you see the trick being used on yourself -- or others.
What do you get then?
GamerGate. ComicsGate. Weeb Wars. Dungeons and Dangerhairs.
There's a reason the radical left does whatever they can to deplatform and silence people like say, Sargon of Akkad, or GamerGate, or Nick Rekieta. Because they help give an out that isn't "give the SJWs exactly what they want."
