My impression is that they're using it to both promote their paid service and to assert some control over what people draw/write on various websites. I wouldn't be surprised if they've received constant complaints due to inappropriate or offensive content and decided to make their lives easier by disabling free usage. You can't ban an account if said account doesn't exist.

Vade doesn't understand the characters they claim to love and seems baffled when people point out that these characters have a much more solid sense of identity than Vade does. You know, because they have consistent character traits and don't slap on labels arbitrarily.
