Kiwi Encounters with Celebrities IRL - It's that guy from that thing!

I've met a few...

Ursula K. LeGuin spoke at my college. Very friendly and warm. She was able to talk about her beliefs in feminism and daoism without going down the SJW route and making it palpable. Autographed my copy of The Lathe of Heaven as well.

I met Bruce Campbell at a convention. Guy is just as laid back and chill as you'd expect. Isn't afraid to mock himself either. Got a kick out of me mentioning that I always enjoyed him as Autolycus in Xena

Not a huge name, but I took writing classes in college by Lidia Yuknavitch. She's a cunt. Massive SJW and way far left.

When Michael Moore spoke at a certain college my friends & I berated & laughed at him until he ended his speech early (we were told he later vowed never to return).

I'm a bit embarrassed by that, in retrospect.

Why be? That guy is a fucking asshole.

That reminds me we had Ted Kennedy do a talk at my shitty community college. Say what you will about the guy, but he's a great public speaker.
Some guy even yelled out "CHAPPAQUIDDICK!!!!" during his speech, but he didn't skip a beat and acted like it didn't even happen.

Looking back on the way he treated Heston in Bowling for Columbine, I'm inclined to agree with you. That was hard to watch and it's not as if Moore ever did his targets the favor of engaging in civil discourse.

Due to random circumstances Brian Blair walks past my office every couple of weeks. It's a unique temptation to have to keep from launching into an Iron Sheik impression screaming at DA NO GUD SONE HUV A BIEECH DA BRIYAN BLAIR MOTHER FUKKAR HAKK PATOOEY but I've held out so far.

Keep this page running in a tab, just in case he does pass by.

I met Doug Stanhope about a year or two ago at a minor league baseball game in Bisbee, he was heckling both teams and the umps incredibly loudly and getting a lot of laughs from the fairly small crowd. I didn't realize it was him until I went to get a drink and a hotdog and he was in line behind me. He saw my Padres hat and said something like "You poor bastard"

Was he nice? I always imagined him being a little scattered but nice all the same
He was amazing actually. He's actually that high energy and friendly irl

I sent him an e-mail a couple of years before he became a recluse and he mailed me an autographed picture. (I'm a fitness junkie.)
That's what he asked me to do lol
I got a little 8 by 10 signed by him

Quite a few years ago I was standing in line at Dunkin Donuts and I heard some guy behind me say "Good morning!". Being from a certain part of the country where we don't speak to anyone we don't know, I turned around in shock that A. Anyone would speak to a stranger and B. That someone was speaking so early in the morning. It was our state governor, at the time. Because of who he was I was polite and said "Good morning" back. I felt kind of awkward though. I didn't vote for him then and didn't vote for him when he ran for re-election the following year.

These are from conventions.
Doug Walker - He held a panel at a local anime convention. The convention was free so I made sure I got front row seats. After the panel was over, I had Doug sign a random book I found laying around my house.
Jason Narvy - Basically told him he was a great actor from my childhood and was able to get his autograph. Nice guy, super polite.
J. LaRose - This guy was hilarious and super talkative. My friends and I had a weekend pass and he welcomed us to come back and chit chat if we didn't have anything else to do.

Non-convention encounters.
Zach Galifianakis - I'm not sure if this was actually him, but I'm still convinced it was. Years ago, my family was vacationing in another state and we decided to visit the beach. Sat a few feet next to this guy who looked exactly like Zach. He was having a nap in the sand with a towel over his head. At one point he woke up started messing around with some seagulls.

I've met a few members of my favourite bands but perhaps my interactions with more minor 'celebrities' are funnier, although sadly I can't reveal names.

I know quite a few politicians - most of the ones I know personally (through friends, family, etc) are all from a political party I don't support. Despite not agreeing with their policies, they are people I quite like so when I see them on the tv or whatever, I do feel quite sympathetic towards them, even if they're usually saying something I disagree with. On one occasion, I knew a sort of 'scandal' years before it came out in public - so much so that when it came out I didn't understand why it was news. I can't say too much without powerleveling on this one.

When I worked in retail I met quite a few people who were on the news. A BBC newscaster used to come into my old work constantly, I served her a few times on the till and another time she yelled at my coworker because a jacket she bought was faulty. Another time I was serving this guy and his partner for ages, he was really nice and I was giving him proper sales patter and having quite a good laugh with both of them. When he left everyone flocked around me because of how close I was getting to the guy who read the weather on our local ITV station. I honestly had no idea who he was because I don't watch the local ITV news but apparently it was a big deal because it was all anyone spoke about for weeks.

Well, I didn't actually meet them, but I did see Duran Duran live at an unannounced, spontaneous concert, about 20 years ago. My friend and I were walking through the square, heard our favorite band signing and there they were, live and in person. It was in in Government Square. They just set up in the square and started belting out their best tunes. It wasn't like a stadium concert because people were standing very close to the platform where they were singing. Not sure what they were doing there, maybe a layover before a flight somewhere so they decided to just start performing. Who knows, maybe they found the boring and decided to sing?

Got to go on stage once for a Penn & Teller show. Penn Jillette was super friendly and while we were waiting for Teller and his guest to finish something we had a nice conversation. Guy was super, super nice and even laughed at a really awful joke I made -- and it wasn't a forced laugh, either.

They both met with the audience either and stood around for over an hour for autographs and talks afterwards and not once seemed annoyed or flustered.

Not quite so famous, but I met the Roadkill guys from Motortrend at a car show and they were all supreme people. It was funny seeing the shit people were bringing for them to sign, like quarter panels and old carburetors.
