Nihilism - Is it relevant nowadays?

Edgy posturing and tryhard tough guyism is the exact opposite of nihilism because it's just making yourself seem cool to other slaves. A proper ubermensch doesn't bitch and moan about how hard he has it.

Nihilism is about cucking the world, not being a cuck yourself.
I agree with your sentiments but you do realize that Nietszche would never describe the Übermensch as a nihilist right?

There's truth in believing in nothingness, without it we wouldn't have things like religion. Humans always want the answer in order to understand everything, so by saying that nothing really makes sense is kind of the lazy way of coming to terms of the things that easily could make sense; If only those who legit believe in Nihilism could step outside of their own comfort-zone and own self to look at everything from another perspective and realize that everything isn't that far off from being realized then maybe we wouldn't have this edgy branch of "philosophy" to begin with, topkek.

If the answer to everything is really nothing, we wouldn't have come this far from the nothingness in order to advance forward towards something. I wouldn't be able to write this message, and you wouldn't be able to read it. What of it makes more sense is up to us as individuals, in the end yo.

There's a lot of fucking freedom and power you get from accepting nothing matters

Sentences like this....

... who cares if there is freedom and power in it if nothing matters?

But you wrote that like there should be trumpets and violins welling up at that glorious statement. Truth! Power! Freedom!

We do think these things matter and so do you. It ends up being an excuse to take shortcuts in experiencing "freedom" and "power".

I prefer existentialism. Nihilists in comparison comes off as lazy. "Muh nothing matters *sits on a couch all day and farts*"

With existentialism you know nothing matters but it also motivates you to do something because if nothing matters then there's nothing stopping you from trying.

99% of ppl who call themselves nihilists on the internet are just juvenile edgelords who aren't actually and don't understand it. From what i understand its basically "Life is meaningless, so you have to make your own meaning". On the other hand, there are many unintentional nihilists who live it out without knowing.

I feel I need to share this greentext.

Fun opinion: SJWs are actually nihilists in the degenerate form of nihilism, but don't know it.

I think that Death from Discworld is a good example. His phrase,”THERE IS NO JUSTICE. THERE IS JUST ME.” Changed meaning as his character grew from, ‘everything is meaningless’, to more along the lines of, ‘if there is no inherent justice, I will be just and kind’.
Another way of looking at is, “nothing matters and that sucks”, as opposed to, “nothing inherently matters, so I should find something to care about.”

I tried not caring about myself or anything but it didn't make me any happier.

Trying not to be as mediocre as I used to be while maintaining awareness of the world around me (and while not understanding all of it) alleviates the feelings of hopelessness somewhat.

I definitely understand the feeling of pointlessness in the modern day, and this has been a thing since the proto industrial revolution with textile mills. I don't think it was Thoreau himself but another Transcendentalist that wrote a short story about a guy descending into depressive thoughts because he figured anybody could do his job at the mill and that made it pointless for him to be there and do it.

That being said, when you take the long view nothing really matters since everything eventually dies, so it's best to think in the short and medium term and live your life in a way that you find fulfilling, otherwise if everything's so pointless you may as well off yourself and be freed of the burden of consciousness.

A fucking Macedonian basically refuted nihilism pretty thoroughly around 300 BC, literally just by appealing to biological FACTS and LOGIC (i.e. Everything has a material, formal, efficient and final cause, including living things, which are made by their parents, and assume the form of that animal's/plant's/fungus'/microbe's species along with being made of whatever that animal/plant/fungus/microbe was made of for the purpose of living the life that would lead to the highest good for that animal/plant/fungus/microbe) . His name is Aristotle. Anyone that actually wants to learn philosophy should read his books, whether you agree with them or not. Nihilism is just for edgy teenagers that want an excuse to jack/schlick off all day tbh. I know, I was that edgy 15 year old kid 8 years ago and I thought these things too. The thing is I grew up and I started actually thinking about this shit with more finesse than a teenager could and started discovering how retar-ded kids really are.

It's relevant because of its popularity. It's pretty easy to see it as the next Atheism. Along the lines of "This is an edgy ideology for the time that is new (to me) and thus new to the world and subscription to it supplants the need to be productive to be interesting." Once it's out of vogue, all that willbe left is whatever impact it had on the world. Which might very ironically be nothing.

Nihilism isn't even really an ideology. It prescribes no behaviors and defines nothing other than a general rejection of meaning. It can be a facet of ideologies but in and of itself it is, appropriately, nothing.

Mindlessly reproducing yourself is not much of a cause. People need to find their own passions and reasons to live. Although if someone is just that dedicated to getting as many fucks in as possible, or less cynically, raising a huge family, more power to them if that's what makes their life fulfilling.
