I’ve only recently become aware how much the DNC has been hollowed out to become the “get Hillary Clinton elected president party” since the end of the last Clinton administration, the upper level of the party all seem to owe the Clintons favors while this new crop of SJW ideologues are completely failing to fall in line and the inner conflict seems to be driving the blue team to hold their party at arms length. If I had a prediction about the future state of the party going forward, I think the last of the crumbling Clinton loyalists will let the new crop immolate themselves on a national stage, then oust them as punishment. Only to themselves be ousted by the non-crazy left who want to bring back the version of the DNC that has actual policy ideas, instead of strategic virtue signaling positions.
My tentative forecast is a Trump win in 2020 and a democratic reformation either immediately after that or after one further loss in the 2022 midterms, depending on how devastating the losses are.
The real wildcard here is how much the public’s perception of both parties have shifted. Sure there are still people who have always voted one way or the other and will keep doing it; but a chunk of the public has started to see the two established parties like two different stables under the same banner. The Usos vs TND. I think you’re going to see an influx of political outsiders and some insiders posing as outsiders (Hi McCain) going forward and who the fuck knows how that will shake out.

If you have any evidence to show that political polarization is decreasing, you're welcome to post it. All of the trends, not just recently but for the past 15 or so years, show that polarization has only continued to ratchet up. The DNC leadership is in total agreement with the radicals over everything but fiscal policy, if you've been paying attention to their discussions with each other.

I was more focused on the third party being created because of extremists in an established party thing, which is basically what CUK was to the Labour Party.

Why would they create a third party? This isn't the fucking UK, we don't have a parliamentary system where its possible for third parties to have any success. The closest thing to a third party their side has is the DSA, and they don't try to run against Democrats outside of primaries.
