Nick has been very humble on his twitter today. Wonder if he's okay or if he's as anxious as the rest of us are about whatever we'll see from Casey.

He's been debating with another lawyer who actually knows his stuff. Whatever anyone might say about Nick, when he's faced with arguments from someone who knows more than him, he'll defer.

I'm not anxious myself but just a little. He could be showing himself that he is a tad bit anxious. I would say that Nick Rekieta shouldn't worry himself too much. We can be either right or wrong on who is our Igor, our Ivan and our Renfield, but both Ty Beard and Rekieta do have the answers for us. They want us [both the Kiwis and non-Kiwis alike] to think as a riddle. Only both Rekieta and Beard will tell us if we are correct on who is our Igor, our Ivan and our Renfield.

So what's the benefit to having multiple lawfirms working in one case? Cause that seems like a clusterfuck.

In general the only real benefit to multiple firms for a single defendent is if they need a specialist. For instance the UFC fighter Yoel Romero recently sued a supplement company for producing tainted supplements. His primary lawyers were a firm from the jurisdication where he filed suit, but he also hired a lawyer from California as well because he specialised in those kind of suits.

It's really common here to have both a solicitor and a barrister working on even pedestrian cases. "Important" cases will often have a solicitor, a barrister and a QC/SC and most of the time they'll be from separate firms (or one or more will be solo practitioners).

What you get is a breadth of experience and less chance of being driven by any one firm's culture. It's an expensive option, though.
