Powerleveling a bit here...
I was on the NeoToonami forums for a few months...a fan project to make a fan-made Toonami after its cancellation. One day I get wind of Steve Blum tweeting that Toonami fans should tune into the annual Adult Swim April Fools stunt. At 12 a.m. eastern time, Adult Swim airs the opening credits to The Room...all of a sudden, TOM pops on the screen. "Oh Hi Adult Swim!" Cue recycled Toonami footage and a whole block of Toonami and Adult Swim classics such as DBZ, Trigun, Outlaw Star, Yu Yu Hakusho, and others...In short order, I joined the Adult Swim Message Boards, before Toonami was legit brought back a couple months later or however long it was...
Anyway, I mention all that to get to this: This coincided with a renewed interest in anime for me. For a brief time I even had a pipe dream of becoming a voice actor. I began looking up Youtube vids of interviews and panels with VA's I was familiar with, Vic being one of them...
I was never a famboy of his like so many others. While I always thought his performance as Edward Elric was one of the best American VA performances ever, for the rest odmf his work I was either not familiar with it or was just like, "meh". He didn't blow me away in the videos I watched either. To me he seemed very effiminate, too much of a goldenboy addkisser to fans and cons, and maybe even conceited. And yes, I did get those creep / playboy vibes from him, from just watching videos.
However, I balanced those thoughts with the overall awesome experiences these people seemed to be having with him on camera, plus the overwhelmingly positive comments people had about him. I never saw one negative comment about him...
Until I was apart of the Adult Swim Message Board. Came across a thread where people were shit talking him for being a prima donna. Talking about him throwing tantrums for more space, being difficult, etc. Apparently one guy knew a higher-up con guy that said Vic would never be invited back to his con. I wpuld say the posters were split, but with more anti-Vic posts than pro-Vic ones. This was around 2012-2013. I remember leaving that discussion with an open mind, not entirely convinced one way or another. I had NEVER heard anything about him being a sex pest...
Until I saw the "Kip Mangina" video by Sean Schemmel and Sonny Strait for the first time, around this same time period. Could not believe that they would trash a fellow VA in that manner in "good fun". I started to wonder if my impressions from videos lined up with others' opinions of him.
However, I have always been level headed, and I knew that he never had any verifiable complaints against him, after having had what must be over a hundred thousand fan interactions. After all this shit came out I immediately realized that not even people in his Risembol Rangers fanclub (you know, that club he started to prep underage girls or whatever) ever came out with any stories despite being apart of his signings and dinners and shit.
Tldr. I am buzzed, I don't exactly even know what points I'm trying to make anymore, just noticed an interesting discussion point from
