If the designer has to go out of her way to say what her work is supposed to represent... I mean, come the fuck on. Death of the author. Justifying something as "it is supposed to be shocking" doesn't excuse it from being criticized.

I get that it can make sense, of course, but with the relationship they have with the community, if they're making a nuanced point do some outreach and dives into it to reassure that which you've directly mocked and insulted before.

I don't think "but now we mean to do it" is really the best tact, considering the actual advert in discussion.

I mean the easiest thing for the artist to do would've perhaps been to spend any amount of time researching the topic at hand and, you know, talk with people in the trans community?

There is no such thing as "trans". There is body dysmorphia, a mental disorder, linked to OCD, and sometimes it plays out in which the obsession has to do with some aspect of the person's body being "wrong", sometimes combined with a compulsion to remove said "wrong" part. Sometimes it's a limb, sometimes it's an eye, and sometimes it's part of the reproductive system.

The correct course of treatment is to treat the underlying mental disorder.

It would be a terrible idea for a game creator to consult the "trans" community, just like it would be terrible for a soft drink designer to consult the "anorexia" community. Those people are mentally ill and at odds with observable reality, they are not equipped to give useful feedback about anything except their delusion. This is why the input doesn't matter, you always get an angry response.

The OT channels are pretty calm at the moment, there are a few who are whinging that their ignore list is overrun (rent free tenants and the like) and a few people coordinating reports. Fukui and other mods are also in them but only morrigan and volimar seem to be actually partaking in any discussions.

No worries, she actually has a pretty heartwarming story from cancer survivor to a main role at CDPR

Kind of puts things into perspective when people can use the internet to be soo quick to judge a person before they're even able to answer or speak.

Why is her story or position at the company relevant? Well, if we're all going to engage in assuming someone must be a terrible person from the get go, it can end up not being that way sometimes. It doesn't mean you have to retroactively agree with her artistic intentions, but maybe hold off calling someone alt-right and some of the shit from the other topic before you even know who they are?
