She likely said something like, “I can see this issue is causing you a lot of pain.” Acknowledge his emotional state over it to show you are hearing what he’s saying, then gently try to pivot his attitude about it away towards a more logical one.I can safely say (since I've seen actual therapists) that no therapist with an ounce of serious respect for their job is going to encourage an obsession over anything.
Obsession is an inherently negative behavior, and therapists are big on not encouraging you to do any negative for your mental health, it goes against the entire point of their profession.
Of course all russ heard was “taylor caused you so much pain YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT 100%”
