And it plays into associating anyone in that chat room with those sayings the things. Because, why not? Over on the Resetera forum, LimitedRunGames, a tiny independent company, were getting called pedos simply for releasing a THQ game, Red Faction.
That is the lengths of "guilt by association", Diggeh, Ms.Galaxy and all the Resetera mods/admins will go to, so fuck them. We'll do the same, and we'll do it much funnier because no one around here is getting banned for jokes or posting a meme.
The Farms is better at it than most places, but we also fall prey to 'joke/accusation becomes accepted gospel' at times. Right now, what we have is strong evidence suggesting that several high-up ResetEra people are skeevy at best, and that after that accusation they are acting even worse rather than, say, releasing the alleged chat logs that show it was out of context. They're behaving guiltily while claiming that they have nothing to be guilty about.
So no, we don't know they're pedophiles. They're very likely creepers, but we don't know with any certainty beyond that. What we
do know, though, is what mostly this thread has been about, which is about what happens when they get held to the same standard they attempt to hold everyone else to. As far as I can tell, that's where most of the posting in this thread has been coming from, mocking the way their hardcore, black and white thinking
magically changes when they're the ones who are considered to be the THQ equivalents.
Funnily enough, the bi-monthly 'ResetEra is filled with transphobes and Nazis' threads where they try to weed out wrongthink are perfectly fine for their userbase. The idea that they're a pure community constantly under attack from within and without is just assumed to be correct, because a couple of troons, maybe a PoC or two have decided that their perpetual state of being offended makes everyone around them evil. But the idea that some of their mods and power-users might really, in fact, be involved in something most people find distasteful isn't regarded as significant, because people on your side accused of pedophilia isn't nearly as bad as people you don't like being Nazis.
They might not be pedophiles. But they're definitely creepers, they're
acting like they're guilty, and the delight of hypocrisy and 'rules for thee not for me' coming home to roost means that, by their ongoing definition and how they treat their enemies, they
are pedophiles, or near enough as makes no difference. It's not about calling them that without it being true, it's about calling them that because this is exactly the same standard they've used in attacking THQ, and people like PewDiePie, and anyone who raises their ire. It's like calling Zoe Quinn a rapist; by our definition of rape, she isn't. But by
her definition from the chatlogs, she totally is. And it's fair to use her definition on her.
