Disaster 'Erosion in acceptance' of LGBTQ people among young Americans, survey finds - NBC

Young Americans ages 18-34 are increasingly uncomfortable around LGBTQ people in personal situations, like learning a family member, doctor, or child’s teacher is LGBTQ.

In its annual “Accelerating Acceptance” survey, GLAAD found that people ages 18-34 are increasingly uncomfortable in “personal scenarios” with LGBTQ people — like learning that a family member, doctor or child’s teacher is lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
Nationwide, the support for “equal rights for the LGBT community” remained stable at 80 percent, GLAAD’s survey found. But the biggest drop in support identified by the LGBTQ rights group was among the youngest Americans.
In 2016, 24 percent of respondents age 18-34 said they would feel uncomfortable with a LGBTQ family member; by 2018 that rose to 36 percent — about one in three. A similar rise was measured among the youngest group of respondents who say they would feel uncomfortable to learn their child was receiving an LGBTQ history lesson at school, from 27 percent to 39 percent.
"With the knowledge that erosion in acceptance was primarily happening among younger males, GLAAD launched a program dedicated to working with the video game industry on LGBTQ inclusion, to bring LGBTQ characters and stories to a world where male audiences were consuming content," said Sarah Kate Ellis, president and CEO of GLAAD, in a press release announcing a selection of survey findings.
This marked shift is reflected in the shrinking of a group of respondents that GLAAD classifies as “allies” — those who say they are “very” or “somewhat” comfortable in all seven interpersonal situations tested. In 2016, 62 percent of young men ages 18-34 reported feeling comfortable in all seven LGBTQ situations; in 2018, that number dropped to 35 percent, although GLAAD did not say which or how many interpersonal situations saw a decline in support.
"The younger generation has traditionally been thought of as a beacon of progressive values," said Ellis said. "We have taken that idea for granted, and this year’s results show that the sharp and quick rise in divisive rhetoric in politics and culture is having a negative influence on younger Americans"
GLAAD’s findings support other recent surveys, including the PRRI survey, that show generalized support for LGBTQ equal rights remains strong. Their March survey found that nearly 70 percent of all Americans, with majorities across all religions, support “broad nondiscrimination protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.”
A recent poll from the Williams Institute at UCLA found about half of voters are less likely to support a candidate because they are over 70. Just 34 percent of respondents said they would be less likely to support a candidate because he or she is gay.
According to a review of Gallup polling about homosexuality, first queried in 1977, support for gay people continues to increase. In 1977, just 13 percent of Americans believed being gay or lesbian is innate; today that number is 49 percent. In 1977, 14 percent of people believed gay and lesbians should be allowed to adopt; today it is 75 percent. In 1977, 56 percent of respondents said gay people should have equal employment rights; today, 93 percent believe that.

It's rare that people feel uncomfortable around your average gay person that minds their own business. You probably don't even know they are gay, or at least don't know for sure.

The problem is the constant push to highlight degeneracy. Very few people agree with letting young children do adult drag shows, letting prepubescent children undergo medical gender transition steps, making personal spaces like bathrooms and locker rooms essentially unisex by allowing everyone to self identify in the moment, having the most deviant members of the gay community rollerblade around in a costume of dildos with their dick hanging out at a supposedly family friendly event, etc. Yet these things keep getting press like they are normal and fine. The loudest, screechiest, most degenerate troons get held up as the face of the T instead of the people that do their best to transition to their chosen gender and fit in. If they aren't purposely trying to stir up trouble, they sure look like they are.

The problem is obvious, yet I sincerely doubt the activist community will attempt to correct it and will instead claim that "hatred is growing out of nowhere, we need more funds and attention to combat this!!! DAMN YOU DRUMPF!!"

Just to add to this; I heard a radio program sex educator that went around high schools telling kids about sex. She noted that in recent years more and more kids started to say they wanted to wait until a serious relationship or marriage before having sex and she said she was aghast and that she tried to get kids to rid themselves of that oppressive way of thinking.

Just imagine having a 50-yo lady telling you that you should be having meaningless sex as a 14 year old.

You probably don't even know they are gay, or at least don't know for sure.

They've done studies on people's "gaydar" and it seems like we've actually got a pretty damn good, natural detection of gay people.

Imagine if the media/politicical/activist powers that be tried to push this "act out and embody every negative stereotype imaginable and we will punish any who criticise you" angle with race.

If people think of blacks as "oh that guy in my boxing club and my geography teacher and ro'dan in my shop class" then they are not going to have much reason on average to have a negative opinion of them.

If however they think of black people as "those obnoxious assholes who spend every moment shrieking for reparations of chicken and watermelon and groping any white woman they see while drinking a bottle of malt liquor every five minutes" there is going to be a sharp rise in average dislike for black people, especially if acting out these negative stereotypes is aggressively protected by politicians and media outlets.

Same goes with any imaginable demographic.

Since the recent Chernobyl miniseries is still just barely topical, allow me to make a comparison

The Chernobyl disaster was largely caused* because the people in charge were so entirely certain that nothing could go wrong, or atleast nothing serious, no matter how many safety mechanisms they stripped away or how much they prodded the reactor to melt down. Everybody involved was certain that the Soviet Union had the most advanced nuclear industry on the planet, and to question them would be to insult the dignity of the USSR itself.

So certain were they that they responded with at best extreme annoyance and at worst career/life ruining accusations of sabotage/treason should any of their underlings or outsiders offer any criticism of how they were running things or suggestions that it could result in any negative effects further down the line. Ofcourse most people just kept their heads down and did what they were told, not wanting to make themselves a target.

And so they kept pushing the reactor further and further outside of its capacity for safe operation, they kept aggressively shutting up anyone who questioned them, and censored any "obviously faulty" data that contradicted the official narrative. Nobody would or even could openly criticise them on any official level, and thus they got more and more reckless and made things more and more dangerous.

Then one day they pushed their luck just one time too many and the reactor exploded, causing the worst nuclear incident in human history, and even with nightmarish amounts of radioactive dust and debris vomiting out the burning roof those responsible for the disaster still told their bosses in Moscow and indeed themselves that it was all just a minor accident of no consequence that was safely under control. When horrifyingly unsafe levels of radiation were recorded they just dismissed the radiation counters as faulty or their operators as incompetent.

The denial didnt stop until plant workers and firemen who showed up to put out the fire started having their skin melt off, and by then it was far too late, and a chain of events that would see the end of the USSR and the ruin of countless lives around the power plant had begun.

Basically this is what has happened with progressive politics.

Those "in charge" in media/politics pushed for more and more stupid and pointless and unpopular shit, rejected and punished any dissent from within their ranks, ignored any real world proof that their actions were backfiring in the extreme, and just kept on trying to force their horseshit on to everyone else never once thinking that it could cause a backlash since "everybody knows we are the good guys and nobody will dare oppose us because that would make them the bad guys". Even now they are in utter denial despite Trumpocalypse and pretty much every western nation going harder right or looking like they will come next election cycle.

This is what happens when mindless and thoughtless obedience to the party line is enforced, and any dissent or question over how things are run is punished. People on all levels of the totem pole will just keep their mouth shut and hope for the best when they see serious risk for fear that raising the alarm over it will result in them being penalised or worse, and this makes the descent into eventual catastrophe inevitable.

* I am simplifying things here before any of our forum's resident Chernobyl experts chimes in
But Stephen King told me Chernobyl show was about the incompetence of Trump and how terrifying it is to have incompetent bigot at the top!

I really like this rise in old school values in younger people. The pendulum always swings back and all that jazz. Makes me more hopeful for the future.
There's always going to be degenerates who hide behind accusations of bigotry, but no amount of Google pulling strings on search results or the mainstream media calling critics Nazis will make the average person support disgusting lifestyles.
When MLK Jr marched on Washington, was he blasting hip hop, smoking crack and saying nigger this and nigger that? No. He was respectful, eloquent, dignified and professional. He acted in a way people of all walks of life should aspire to. Today the most vocal voices in the gay/trans community are degenerates. And people don't like degenerates.

In hindsight, there are few evangelicals I know who I owe an apology:
Sure they said their views in a completely exceptional way, but they ended up being completely right about the slippery slope and that honestly fucks with my brain.
Yeah I remember that too. Fuck. Their argument seemed crazy and completely unjustified but now I think about now and how wrong I was thinking that Christian conservatives were wrong.

Honestly I miss the old days where I could just go and diddle a black child on the street without repercussion, now I have to spend hours painting my self, getting weird piercings and horns attached, gluing dildos to my body, and shoving stuff up my ass before I'm allowed to molest a child. :( life's unfair.

What.

Fucking what.

Links or it didn't happen.
I'm sorry...

Blumhouse put out the call recently for a transgender actress to play Lourdes, “a punk rocker” and “the second member of the teenage clique. her super Catholic mother threw her out for being trans and she now lives wih her 80-year-old abuela, who taught Lourdes a variety of supernatural practices.”

Not surprising. When you allow the crazies, degenerates and borderline criminals become the face of the movement, people start to go from the idea of agreeing with it to the reality that a number of these people are lunatics. The ideal gay couple are one which is no different that a normal couple. Instead, we get this line of thinking from them as to why people are shying away from them:

gay marriage wot.gif

"What's next, plural marriage? Gay propaganda being forced on kids in schools?"

1996 me: "LOL shut up bigot."

2015 Mainstream Media: "The case for polyamorous marriage after Obergefell!" "Why people who object to mandatory drag queen presentations in elementary schools are nazis!"

Well nothing about this should really surprise anyone.

I honestly don't give a shit what people do in their own bedroom but what happens in the bedroom should stay in the bedroom.

I freaking called it a while ago that this would be the fate of the LGBT activist movement as more obnoxious idiots begin to infiltrate it and end up making the LGBT rights movement look as annoying and obnoxious as other groups such as furries.

There's a really good reason why the furry community has gotten plenty of backlash and it has less to do with the hobby itself and more to do with the many types of people that are part of it. Sure there are A-Logs and other dicks that make fun of furries for dressing up like animals but that is not much of a valid reason to look down on furries. The main reasons of why people just don't like furries is because the furry community in general is pretty much filled to the brim with animal abusers, pedophiles, and annoying idiots that made the furry community's reputation just being one of the worst online communities out there. It's so bad that many of the old school furries have either left the furry community altogether because of this or they are doing what they can to reform the furry community and try to save it from its bad reputation that it has now.

And here we see the same thing is going to happen with the LGBT rights movement because as idiots within the LGBT rights movement push for really stupid things such as trans restrooms, making established fictional characters as gay as means to appeal to the 'woke' crowd, and also pretty much demanding other special rights and privileges to get what they want regardless if it will damage the rest of society or not.

I don't care if you want to stick your dick in someone's butt over sticking your dick in pussy, I don't care if you're into pussy and tits over dicks, I also don't care if you swing both ways and you like both pussy and dick, and I don't care if you want to sexually identity as a cardboard box. But no one is ever going to really take you that seriously if you want to just start some stupid Maoist-styled cultural revolution and try to rebuild society from the ground up just to suit your fragile views of the world at large.

If you want to be seen as to be as normal just like everyone else then well actually show it to everyone else that you are a functional human being that is able contribute to much of society as a whole and demanding special rights and privileges while bitching about why people should pander to you will only lead to backlash in the aftermath.

If you had told me they collected real sperm to put in the resevoir, I would believe you.

If you had said they had made sure it was HIV positive sperm to combat prejudice, I would believe you.

Just ask anyone from the caribbean how they feel about gays. Or mexico or south america or even the middle east. The one silver lining to all this insanity honestly. If things werent so censored and the you know whos werent working overtime in the media to get minorities onto the left all immigrants would be die hard republicans. There is almost zero fucking overlap between conservative religious immigrants, which is most of them and the values of the current democratic party. In Jamaica its not quite illegal but like its on the level of theyre not supposed to talk about it and its heavily looked down upon. The women especially hate gays.

I'm living in South America right now. It's true that most indigenous communities and the most economical deprived areas have some reservations about gay people. Overall, they don't mind someone's gay: they could be somehow tolerant as long as the person is not loud about it. But yes, homosexuals aren't their favorite type of people.

The governments here are pushing hard for LGBT+ acceptance, but of course, it's never done in these areas but in middle class groups, where most people already are open about it because they have more exposure to the world and more education. And yes, even here, the ones pushing for it happen to be the whitest ones. The REAL far left aren't white people and they don't like homosexuals at all.

I used to go to church when I was a kid were the pastor and other people in charge were anti LGBT saying their acceptance was only a front so they could shove their degeneracy down your throat, your kid's throat, through the media, in schools, and in public. I used to laugh at that, but is sounds like they really were right in the end.

When I was in Brazil some years ago, there were so many gay pride events, parades, transvestites trying to sell you stuff as you waited in front of a red light, and so on. This was in the big cities, though.
