Man, I fell sorry for those backers: when they probably thought that they could move on from this dumpster fire of a project, they get dragged back in kicking and screaming with useless concept art for a year or two... just to have a single chapter in a five chapter game.

Man, I hated that business model for videogames. Almost as much as live services now.

Almost

EDIT: @Boldir Lamati can you also screen the comments under the update? I'm kinda curious if they're supportive or asking for a refund

Toby Fox and James Roach are back for Hiveswap: Act 2 as composers
I'm sure all that was confirmed is the musicians have already done their job for Hiveswap before getting laid. Roach has already talked on his social media about the music for Act 3 and we barely have a sighting of the second installment. That makes sense, since Homestuck's music was usually finished before the animated flashes.

EDIT: I should note one of the Friendsim tracks not present in the official album was announced to be in Act 2 (and its soundtrack).

So, uh... do you not like how James Roach had made those stupid titles that were technically Twitter shitposts for the themes like Mallek being a Fortnite clickbait title, Karako's being a literal ASCII image of Bowsette, Stelsa and Daraya's being overly too long and several others are self-depreciated?

I've read most of Homestuck and given it a few chances before, but the point-n-click game actually gave me a bit of hope. To see it be another dumpster fire of SJWness and internet lingo is pretty depressing.
That is... if you were to play the Hiveswap Friendsim where you just play as the MSPA Reader to befriend the trolls from the troll call.

But of course, be aware of poorly drawn sprites and victory cards along with James Roach's shitty song titles.

I'm confused. Are you two insulting the Friendsims or complimenting them?

I haven't played Friendisms; do I need to in order to understand Act 2? Also I really hope they fix that glitch at launch where the cut-scenes wouldn't load and sometimes crashed the game. I know I shouldn't care at this point, but they've shown some considerable restraint with Act 1 to not fuck it up by relying on people's nostalgia for Homestuck in order to get invested; I'm hoping this story can just remain it's own thing and not get involved in the usual tangled nonsense.

Then again, that's totally :optimistic: .

I don't think You'd need to play the Friendsims, they were made just to keep the fanbase interested and to explore characters that probably won't be touched upon much (for example i don't expect hot dog boy to be more than a little gag that dies immidiately).

Unfortunately wasn't able to get any reactions on the Kickstarter itself. Browsing on Twitter and Reddit, though, most people are just happy they're finally getting something, with the very stray "where the fuck was this like 2 or 3 years ago" comment. Nothing particularly interesting. Out of all 24,346 backers, I honestly wonder how many of them still care, and how many people on social media got into it super late and weren't even around when the Kickstarter happened.

I still have some disgust over the fact that Hussie himself has been completely silent--he is, shockingly, still living and has a beating pulse, since V mentions him in some of her curiouscat answers and the fact that the project's moving now. I really hope he's actually working on this more actively, or doing something new creatively while overseeing this, because honestly I'm still a bit saddened to see someone so based on direct interaction lock himself away. Then again, with the fanbase being so radically different and changed, maybe he doesn't want to bother.

After an incredibly quiet 6/12, James Roach is teasing there being a new announcement this month, as well as the possible end of "Homestuck days" being used for announcements due to a (new?) person hired by Viz handling this stuff from now on.

EDIT: Archive links aren't working for me right now; will archive the Tweet as soon as I can.
EDIT 2: Here's the archive link.

Oh thank God we're not going to have three announcements a year anymore

Anytime I think Homestuck's management couldn't get further away from its fanbase, they find new ways to surprise me.

They have a literal "hype day" created years ago and still running on fumes with minimal effort and they *still* managed to fuck it up.

I don't get it... Do you know what guys like, say, EA would give to have a literal "EA day", even just once a year, let alone multiple times, when people get excited for their products for no reason other than blind nostalgia and misplaced hope? Entirely for free? Hint: you can only count the amount in freshly harvested human souls.

Lightning, bottled up for years, thrown away because the new intern couldn't be bothered to do a blog post during a brand-sensitive day. What a joke of a company.

I don't even care about Homestuck anymore, it's just the bad marketing that gets me.

http://whatpumpkin.com/and-were-back-with-another-sneak-peek-at-hiveswap-act-2/

WhatPumpkin has released a new statement regarding Act 2 and the future of Hiveswap, alongside updating their website and logo.

So we reached out to you last month to find out exactly what your most pressing questions were about us, Friendsim and Hiveswap. We’ll answer some of them here:
  • Are all four acts of Hiveswap still coming? When are each of the games coming out? What’s the roadmap for these games?
We are committed to delivering Hiveswap in its entirety–Act 2, followed by Act 3, and then Act 4. After that, we can turn our attention to the possibility of Hauntswitch.
  • Will the games come to any additional platforms?
Hiveswap will continue to be released on Steam and other sites for PC, Mac and Linux, as was initially promised. While we currently have no plans to port the game to any other platforms, we are open to the possibility of considering this in the future.
  • Please, tell us more about Hiveswap: Act 2!
Act 2 is still a point and click adventure game, with the same basic UI and mechanics. The puzzles and gameplay will focus more heavily on character dialogue in this installment.

In terms of length, the amount of time it will take you to complete the game will depend on how much time you spend exploring and talking to the characters in each scene. There will be more content in Act 2 than Act 1.
  • What’s going to happen in the game? Where will it take place? Which characters will be in it?
Details about the story and plot of the game will be best revealed by the game itself. You will be able to look forward to seeing a lot more of Alternia in Act 2.
  • How does Friendsim fit into the Hiveswap games?
Friendsim is an extra-canonical series of character introductions and backstories to add flavor to the Hiveswap experience. You don’t need to have played Friendsim to enjoy Act 2, but if you’re interested in any of the characters that appear in Hiveswap, it’s a great way to find out more about what they’re like.
  • I’m a bit confused on how Kickstarter rewards will work. What do we get again?
All Kickstarter backers who pledged to receive a digital copy of the game will receive Hiveswap, Acts 1-4. If you opted for the tier that included the soundtracks for all Acts of Hiveswap, you’ll get that, too.

Backers who pledged to receive physical copies of the games will be sent their copies when all four acts are complete.
  • Who’s doing what on the team behind Hiveswap: Act 2?
James and Toby are back for music, Adrienne is back for animation, and Aysha of Friendsim has joined the writing team. In the future we’ll be doing a series of artist and writer spotlights, introducing you guys to the team.

Thanks for sticking with us! We’re excited to be diving back into the Homestuck universe and we’ll keep updating you regularly on our progress.

I feel like they wanted to post *something*, but were legally bound to not say anything actually relevant about Homestuck and Hiveswap. So they just posted the equivalent of reminding people that water is, indeed, wet and pretended they were fan questions.

That, or whoever actually bothered to ask these questions is a complete moron.
