An interesting part of Jim's thread really has very little to do with Jim.
It sort of reminds me of the boomer meme "How did a generation that grew up on South Park become so offended?"
It was never making money that I took issue with. It is the way he did it this time that is suspect. Maybe less suspect and just more surprising. That said, I can remember multiple occasions where Jim said that he did not sell merch but I do not have an example of him saying selling merch is bad, at least since the beginning of IBS.
There was the little controversy after the IBS Apocalypse about Jim merch in Tonka's merch shop, but Jim never said selling merch was shitty, he said Tonka selling merch with Jim's "face" on it was shitty if Tonka was still selling it AFTER they had a falling out. However, prior to that Jim said he didn't give a shit if Tonka sold the merch with his "likeness" on it during the lead up to Bloodapalooza.
That all said, I am going to buy a hat. Jim is a funny guy, and his content and the content he has shined a spotlight on have had me laughing through a hundred shifts of work, with my earbuds in and my boss asking what the hell is so funny.
And someday, when Null makes t-shirts, I hope it is a picture of him coyly covering his mouth with one hand while stuffing some fatty full of food with the other. Because that will be the legacy of the Farms, awkward laughter and big asses. I will wear the fearless feeder T-shirt to an all-you-can-eat buffet and attract the most bovine of females. I'll buy 2.
As for Jimbo, apparently his legacy will be a legion of fans who are willing to go the extra mile to prove they love him. It is a strange phenomenon, that the slightest of criticism will trigger anger, logic and feelings instead of just silly bants.
However, with most of the funny streamers and hosts in this "community" laying in a pit of filth of their own creating, making no money with no audience, their world having turned on them and left them drugged out, sucked out, f'ed out and looking for a handout, I think I understand the reaction to the criticism of Jim. When someone goes down now they go down hard; no one wants that balance tipping and pouring it's weight on Jim.
Jim can take care of himself, though. As we are standing here looking into the horizon, it is as if Jim can see the end of the road. Whether it is an end in emphysema or mesothelioma that is coming his way or just the end of people who say what they want being allowed on the internet, I do not know.
