Bailey's a 4chan and Reddit user, apparently. But does he browse Kiwi Farms? That's the important question.

Most of the posts on the Obscera Tumblr are about Bailey, and could've easily been condensed into one post with different sections.

Whenever she writes about her OCs it’s either vague or unecessarily specific. I mean she could just say that they met on a social media/networking site instead of telling us they met on “frendr” a social app that connects people for “friendly reasons”.
It’s always been obvious that Tea is not a competent writer but damn imagine if she decided to finally start working on that comic she was planning for Obscera/Wisteria. *sigh*

Aside from being a drooling toddler, I guess Bailey’s new motivation is having a hateboner over Ash being a lesbian. Makes you wonder how he even got any wamens beforehand because I’m pretty sure most of her OCs are turning gay, lmao. It feels like this is some awkward attempt to address “deep issues” into her story, like homophobia. But mostly I just think it’s a half-assed way to reconcile Ash’s constant gender and sexuality change with the flow of the “story”.

As for her writing constantly about Bailey, tbf the lesbophobic sadwhiteboi is ironically her most interesting character among the droves of gender special, ambiguously brown OCs.

Bailey's only interesting because Tea decided to flesh him out instead of the characters meant to be their self-inserts. Even then, he's still annoying to hear about because who cares that much about him? He just has interesting motivations, besides being an annoying "clout chaser" who hates lesbians. Ash and Elliott are both Mary-Sues, as much as I hate using the term, but for opposite reasons - Elliott has a tragic backstory and zero faults, and Ash is an emotional trainwreck but somehow still sexually desireable to almost everyone. But fleshing out the other characters, rather than just the main cast, would be much more fun than just sticking with the same three characters. It gets tiring to hear about the same characters for almost years. I want to hear about the ambigiously brown genderspecials with one sentence for their profiles, dang it! If not that, just say more about the world of Obscera, not just the people in it.

Regarding Ash's sexuality change, Bailey was always at least somewhat lesbophobic, it was just made to be a primary character trait after Ash was changed to a lesbian. I really doubt it's Tea trying to have a "discussion" about homophobia. It's just an uninteresting motivation for Bailey stalking Ash (not that there was ever a real reason for it, to be fair), and a lot of the changes being made have just made the Obscera/Oddity story much more bland. It's not like the outline for the original plot was super interesting, but it could've worked without Tea trying to make it similar to real life and based around modern technology/social media.

Also, I think Wisteria was abandoned. I don't even know what it was about, but RIP.

Exactly- I mean Tea, you have three god ocs that are living in the modern day and have had two or three past lives. They sound more interesting and if you decided to take some time to flesh them out instead of drawing Ash for the nth time, they could've been interesting. For example, you could give Yu a nihilistic outlook on life and taking up a devil-may-care facade in order to cover up and hide the pain she feels about being immortal and pushing away other people to protect and prevent herself from experiencing the pain of watching those she loves slowly die and to never return while she becomes reborn over and over for all of eternity again. With her character arc being her learning that the things and people she loves aren't meant to last forever and to enjoy it while they last as their evanescent existence is what makes them so special. That would have been a pretty good concept IMO to have a god cursing their immortality and realizing that the things precious to us are meant to be mortal.

Edit: wanted to add in her character arc about learning that things aren't meant to last an eternity and to enjoy them while she can

Personally I'm still hoping we get more about the SoundCloud rapper and the bisexual MAGA YouTuber but I doubt that'll ever happen. If we do the MAGA YouTuber will probably just be a one-dimensional antagonist and the SoundCloud rapper will be retconned as trans or some shit.

It would be hilarious if tea actually did have Bailey attempting to start a thread on Ash as part of his stalking only for it to backfire and him possibly ending up with a thread himself (which is exactly what would happen in the real world), but that would require too much awareness on Tea's part.

That said I could see Ash being a bit like our dearly departed Shed Princess if she was a real person.
 
The relationship between Ash and Bailey (oc Bailey not Bavid) was a lot more thematically interesting before Ash became 110% mega lesbian, as there was a fair bit of Stockholm Syndrome related conflict.
Now it’s just “ew, you’re a creepy dude, get help” and yeah okay sure. But then what?
 

The only way that would make sense (as in a large amount of monsters live in the area) is if sunrise beach was a major metropolis area with a high crime rate compared to if it was a midsized- small town with a lower crime rate. IE would a mysterious death that is most likely foul play be more out of place in a hellhole like Camden, Baltimore or a shittier part of New York City or in a smaller area with a lower violent crime rate such as Jacksonville, Wyoming or Beverly Hills?

I agree, though I also feel like Ash just being a poor widdle abuse victim is kinda lame and makes her bland/Mary Sueish. Ash has alot of flaws on paper, but it feels like tea doesn't really explore them and just shoves them aside to emphasize what a poor victim Ash is. Having BPD would mean that Ash almost certainly has a history of lashing out at loved ones and doing genuinely awful things. She'd probably have at least a few people who cut off contact with her because they couldn't deal with her craziness and bad behavior.

A character can have tons of flaws, but they're still a Sue if the story just ignores them.

That said Ash's relationship with Fariya seems extremely boring. Even though Fariyah is more fleshed out that most of Tea's cookie cutter brown lesbians, she still doesn't seem to have much a character beyond being Ash's big tiddie stripper gf.

You could definitely incorporate this idea into a smaller city a la Twin Peaks if Tea were to present it as a sort of, elephant in the room? that all of the townspeople conveniently ignore as to not disrupt their daily life (or to prevent drawing the monsters' attention to themselves).

A cool thing about creating your own stories is that you don't necessarily have to play by the rules, nor do you have to come up with every last idea from scratch; she could make some interesting or "symbolic" parallels with these monsters to the real world (like how the American government ignored the AIDS crisis - an elephant in the room that no one wanted to acknowledge; or like the opiate epidemic, or abuse of prescription drugs - something that Tea may have special knowledge of bc she lives in Pill Mill Florida). There could be something to do with the authorities covering up the source of the monsters and doing their best to divert public attention away from them (there would be a lot of potential in this sort of storyline - hell, just sifting through some conspiracy theory forums would be a goldmine for plot ideas), and Alice's cult could be working for the government to exterminate the beings, whilst Alice himself was secretly trying to harvest them or their powers for his own benefit.

You could put the concept of "interdimensional monsters emerging from a specific spawn point" into nearly any setting and with a little brainstorming, come up with a decent storyline. They taught you this kinda stuff in middle school English class - how would these monsters affect the local population? Would they wreak havoc or would they lay low? Are they hostile or are they passive? If people find out about them, how do they feel? What does the local population do to deal with these creatures? What was it that put them there, and where did they come from? If something put them there, why? Can they coexist with humans? If they can, how do humans and the creatures work together? If they can't, what is it that prevents the two from living peacefully?

Something Tea is actually pretty good at is coming up with these sort of, initial concepts, in both stories and characters - they tend to have such great potential to develop into interesting, fleshed out ideas, but she always seems to let them fall flat. She just doesn't seem to have a message or feeling she wants to express, just... general cool concepts and that's it.

It's kind of disappointing, really. Like the blue balls of creative writing.

Exactly. It's what unfortunately a lot of amateur writers don't realize: the implications of monsters living among humans and how would it affect both human and monster population. Take for example a story involving vampires and probably explain how they went from being mindless corpses that devour the living to charismatic and highly intelligent predators that lure their victims into a sense of security before they strike. A good in-universe explanation for it would be simply survival of the fittest. As what would attract more attention and get hunted down more quickly: the rabid, rotting corpse or the monster that looks, acts, and behaves like a normal human being?

Who knows, Tea could be taking hints from the discussions we're having on here and working them into Obscera. I just assume everyone in Tea's universe is really dumb and can't notice the fact there are a bunch of pastel weirdos with horns in their town.

Regarding the horn people thing- she can easily explain it away with something similar to the Mist in Percy Jackson and only other non-humans and a few humans born with the ability to see through disguises can see their true form. Or those beings can create a sort of glamour that gives them a more regular human appearance but when they are alone, they can show off their true form. There, I just came up an explanation as to why a bunch of monsters that are obviously not human can prance around town without any one batting an eye at them in under a minute.

Their relationship just reminds of the Ashley’s (appropriately) from that 90’s cartoon Recess. They used to just snicker and say “oooooh, scandalous!”, I think. And that seems to be as far as Ash and Fariya’s relationship goes. I don’t think Tea’s really even draw them doing more than holding hands.

And, she’s never drawn Fariya in big tiddied stripper mode and like wtf why isn’t that all you draw. This is the Internet, people want big tiddied strippers.
 
Yeah I definitely agree that Tea's shit could actually be decent and interesting if she sat down and actually put effort into it. Unfortunately it just feels like she's stuck on churning out lazy, soulless art and one dimensional tumblr-approved characters. I think something about Tumblr culture definitely stifles the creativity and growth of artists.

I think Tea actually has a lot of potential to become a good artist/creator and grow out of cowdom, but it's not going to happen as long as she remains balls-deep in Tumblr bullshit.
