Brianna Wu / John Walker Flynt - "Biggest Victim of Gamergate," Failed Game Developer, Failed Congressional Candidate

But what if the child consents, inshallah?

I remember that Byerley freak. These tweets made her Twitter's lolcow for a day:

Like the amount of times when someone who shouldn’t go to adult places go to adult places? Or when an adult woman says that the male child “consented” into having sex?

I’m sorry if I’m being a raging meninist but this sort of thing would just be swept under the rug with reverse genders.

Not a woman, not a leader, not a member of the Democratic party.

Why I'm not surprised that the idea of "10x engineer" is offensive to Wu? He would be first to question existence of real competence and expertise, because he assumes that everyone is faking it just like he does. He doesn't understand the mindset of a person truly dedicated to his craft, because he was never dedicated to any craft, (let's face it: even his grifting is half-assed).

Christine just killed it. She is not from US though, so that's why she could be so brave :)
Also randos started to attack her:

In the Clown World your resume, your experience, your projects mean nothing. Your pronouns are what really counts, and also whom you know. THAT makes you a real software engineer.

Christine the legit software engineer: 57 contributions in the last year.

Wu, the grifter: er, when was the last time he coded anything, actually?

Now, who would you employ as a software engineer, based on that? (I have to ask, and I blame the Farms entirely, but is Christine trans? Or has reading Kiwi Farms for years just given me permanent troonovision?)

Either a troon or affected with a severe, possibly terminal, case of Germanic Face.

Christine is a legit software engineer and woman, and John aka Brianna Wu just got btfo.

I’m sure that was a block instantly by John, especially the LinkedIn comment which we’ve all brought up before.

“I’ve managed engineering teams”...where exactly John? Anyone who’s worked for a tech company (not an imaginary one) knows stand-ups are generally worthless as are most meetings.

I've never talked to anyone who thinks that shit is anything other than a complete waste of time imposed by pointy-haired imbecile bosses. People like John.

John would most definitely institute shit like this. He’d be the classic boss who doesn’t actually understand what his staff do. Feeling threatened and useless, he’d overcompensate by inserting himself in to the process through pointless meetings and by pushing the latest fad he read about that morning.

One of the interesting tidbits from Warren's topic was how much Brianna LOVED meetings. To the point of some of them going on for several hours. It allows him to feel like he's got power and, importantly, it doesn't involve him having to (pretend to) work.
I've just moved jobs from a generally disfunctional team, where I had a weekly calendar full of meetings to talk about all the work we should be doing, to a much more productive enviroment where we have two non-compulsory meetings per week, but people talk outside of meetings. It's so refreshing. No wonder John loves the meeting.

John just wants these things because he's completely fucking useless. He is generally doing absolutely nothing. But he wants something where he can just demand other people do things and talk about himself. I can't imagine how intolerable a working environment with John must be just even having him around, but then he has to inflict his bullshit on everyone in these dumb meetings, too, where he can do dumb shit like demand everyone use Apple iCal or something like that.

Yep, also back to the AOC comparisons he tried to make.

Look at how AOC treats her staff ca how Brianna aka John treated his at giant spacekat and his first campaign run.

Brianna/John paid them peanuts and didn’t even give out final checks in the case of his scampaign and cheated his staff.

So much progressiveness going on with John and Frank.

Christine just killed it.
OMG Christine is my new hero. 100x this. Brianna's "standups" were the most abusive, counter-productive thing I ever experienced.
I saw literally FIVE people quit over the fricking standups. Including one woman who is now one of the top staffers for an *actual* Congresswoman.

I can't believe Brianna ever had that many people working for the campaign. Good Lord.

By the way, check out Christine's resume. There may be some puffery there (one may claim anything online, after all) but it looks like she has more experience in her little finger than Brianna does in ... well, just look.

You know my dude, on the one hand you're a cool guy who has come around to the fact that your former employer is an abusive narcissist. On the other hand you think it's fine to assault journalists in public.

I'll slightly disagree. If you have a good team that talks to each other throughout the day and can be trusted to run itself, then a proper standup is good for project managment.

My example is a previous project: 4 coders/analysts, 1 project manager/business owner. We had a 5 minute standup each day, and sometimes finished in just 3. The PM tracked our project offline and reminded us of dates, and sometimes we avoided double work by saying what the day's plans were. Everyone gets on with their day, code gets delivered on time.

To Christine's point, standups aren't necessary to the actual process of software development, but dev doesn't exist in a vacuum; you need to be trackable and quantifiable to the business that pays you. Doing that without meetings requires an alternate way to track you--direct entry into project plan, timesheets, logging your contributions, or (worst of all) code line counts. There are code/IDE tools to do some of that, but they don't work for all project types. You have to pay the PM overhead somewhere.

If John actually likes meetings, he's the worst kind of person in IT. And if he thinks you need meetings to document what your code did... dear God, keep him away from any minor position of authority.
