This will mainly focus on knitting, but there is the same deals with crotchet and needlepoint.
Ravelry is a forum/shopping site where users buy and sell knitting patterns and hang out on the forums. They recently banned all pro-Trump disucussion and patterns. Here is the article:

Do you want to know the horrible, evil patterns being shared?

Hateful.
In response to Ravelry banning MAGA, some people decided to raid.

NOT PORNO!
Due to this raid, Ravelry has been on lockdown, no new accounts are to be created.

This was the front page for a while.

But, this isn't the first drama from the knitting community.
Now, lets take a look at some of the people in the community.
But wait, there's more.
I think this is a case of politics invading a hobby and making it less fun for everyone involved.
If anyone has or knows more, please share.

And remember, take care of yourself, and each other.

Some of your screencaps aren't embedded, but when I click through them, they're fine.

This is a good OP, but are there any links to active communities/groups we can laugh at and farm screenshots from?
I added some, but Ravelry is on lock down. I was going to wait, but I figured i might as well, if anyone else had some hot goss.

YES!! Oh I’m so happy you’re made this because there is so much delicious SJW outrage at the moment.

The current issue du jour regards a bloke with the handle sockmatician. He apparently coined the #diversknitty hashtag and is a gay HIV positive bloke for added woke points. BUT he SINNED, my friends, he sinned. He wrote a post saying ‘hey let’s all be nice to each other’ and was turned on by The BIPOCborg. The funniest thing is all the people who initially liked the post frantically backpedaling after this. He then flounced and was admitted to hospital, and then went to the yarningham yarn festival and was involved in a shouting match with a British knitter. This has now been turned into WHITE CIS MALE PHYSICALLY ATTACKS BRAVE BIPOC and the mi.lk is flowing.

Let me go get screenshots of all this. It’s a fantastic source of insanity.

I’m hoping someone will create a crossover with the fat acceptance/sewing community because they are absolutely barmy.

Happy days. I’ll be back to this with screenshots.

They fucked up street art, too.
ETA - there's a fair amount of cultural crossover between hipster twats who knit & hipster twats who put up wheatpaste & graf.

that fucking name tho

This is really not surprising since softy shit like knitting has been always hip with hipsters and hippy types who put the ☪☮⚥✡☥☯✝ bumper sticker on their cars. I'm just surprised they haven't tried to politicize Wicca, Taro Cards and Ouija Boards at this point.

They probably already have

It's fun. What hobby drama are you dealing with?

I don't want to derail the thread, but I like alternative fashion. Fashion, being what it is, always attracts the worst people, and doubly so for autistic niche fashion.

Somewhat related to the topic, let me tell you how sad it is to watch a hobby of yours get mixed up in the culture war. It's having something pure, escapist and fun snatched away from your hands because some smug, pushy asshole desperately needed the clout from being on the right side of history. Then you get fucked over and your friend groups split because you expressed the slightest bit of disagreement or even neutrality.

I feel bad for all the people in this community who just want to fucking knit.

The IRL people I know in fashion are exactly who you would expect.
I think it has something to do with the type of people who are into traditionally "feminine" crafts, even though for a long time men were the tailors. Mix that idea with arts and crafts, and that's who you attract.
