They're performers of a different kind, they don't need to be seen as the character they portray but they do need to project emotion far more than most people because the bulk of their money is made from directly interacting with fans. You can't be normal and be successful doing that, you have to always be projecting something. Which makes them bad liars when they're dealing with the truth, at least from what I've seen.

I imagine its hard to turn off emotive expressions when you've done it constantly any time you talk to strangers for two decades. All in all it's good for Vic because he's emoting earnestness and honesty, which is why he seems a lot more in control than Monica during the depositions.

I can't speak for Vic, but if it were me, every day and every second they attempt to fight back and deny the lies they've told and the damage they've done would be like compound interest on any potential settlement. Even if at one point he might have taken a full retraction with a confession of their guilt for what they've done I don't think a reasonable person would offer that any more. They'd have to cough up some cash, change their twitter header to "I admit to lying about all the allegations I made towards Vic" for at least a year. Shit like that to be able to get a settlement if I were in his shoes.

If the settlement doesn't result in a big unmistakable retraction and apology so NO ONE can ignore it, while also providing anything they have that can be used against the other parties, then I can't see settlements being in Vic's interest. The only party with the kind of capital to make it worthwhile from a strictly financial perspective is Funimation, but I don't think Sony would be happy.

As Nick has said, the court's remedy to reputational damage is loads of money. They can't fix your reputation, but they can compensate you for it.
