At least there is some logic in going from Atheist to skeptic. You can be both at the same time without having contradicting ideals, both ideologies (if you can even call them that) are based on being highly skeptical of a particular worldview (religion/social justice) and and you can argue that social justice has some cultish/religious elements to it.
