A new sacrifice has been put on Tom King's altar of PTSD, Adam Strange. Also featuring Trump Derangement Syndrome:

For the first time since Rebirth started Batman is in the 80K range (88,428 ) the moment issue #61 (Knightmares part 1) hits the shelves. Since then (discounting 2 issues #62 & #64) has not been able to climb back up to it's regular 90K range in orders.

Pretty much a good sum up of Tom King's fall from grace:
So another comic to join the garbage pile after 2020/2024.

Sounds like his story will be based on his Trump PTSD.

I don't know who this character is, but he looks like he's a space-faring cosmonaut... Why does Trump even have to be involved?
Just right a fucking fun exciting space adventure you fucking moron.

That gif featuring Rich Evans makes having to discuss Tom King all the worthwhile.

I hadn't been regularly reading comics for probably 10 years when Rebirth started back in 2016. Tried getting into New 52 but it was shit but Rebirth got me excited about the characters again. And when I read in the newspaper that a former CIA agent was going to be writing Batman, that got me really excited. Imagine seeing Batman using counter-intelligence tactics that field operatives use.

But all King seemed to write about was mental health bullshit. I was reading the books but then forgetting what I'd read because I was literally dozing off as I read them. War of Jokes & Riddles should have been something that we'd hope to one day see adapted into an animated movie based off the title alone but it was such boring tripe being told in flashback that I couldn't understand the appeal.

I decided to stop after that and just follow the story in graphic novels by reading them in the bookstore if I ever had a moment but even that became a chore so I just gave up. I felt bad for people who were actually looking forward to "The Wedding" because it showed how easily they could be duped. Catwoman not marrying him was obvious but Bane being behind it all was just dumb and I haven't gone back to the title since.

If he wants to tackle Trump in his comics, fine, let him, let the numbers show that maybe it's not a good direction but so long as he can keep talking about PTSD/mental health and he and his buddies keep giving each other Eisners (Seriously, King's the best writer in comics? Fuck off!) while the medium continues to die it's slow slow death.

It shouldn’t be surprising anymore, but every time a writer on a major book acknowledges that they’re motivated by petty current year political gripes, I’m dumbfounded.

Where’s Jim Shooter to kneecap these posturing crybabies?

Given how “well received” the mental health themes in Heroes in Crisis were, I’m sure he’ll tackle Trump with grace and poise in this new run...

I thought this display of entitlement and economic illiteracy was amusing.

Adam Strange is a weird one. He's a relatively normal guy who was struck by a 'zeta-beam' and instantly transported to the planet Rann, where he has some very Flash Gordon-esque adventures. The beam was initially temporary, and he'd get sent back to Earth, until Rann's scientists managed to fix the problem.

He reminds me a bit of the Sub-Mariner, in that he works best as a supporting character or even an antagonist to your main character who's come to Rann for whatever reason the plot demands.

Wonder how badly King's going to fuck him up. Last I saw, Strange was happily married with a kid.

I fear the march towards an automated future (in that, our lives are in the hands of expert systems & machine intelligences) but god damn if you invented a computer that could write a solid, non-trooned out, non SJW marvel comic, and illustrate it at least as well as they were in the 80s, I'd don my I <3 Hal 9000 teeshirt faster than a speeding fucking bullet.

Wouldn't someone like that basically pull a Captain Marvel in Endgame, and basically say "look I've got interstellar shit to deal with I ain't got time for the US president"
You misunderstand. The character himself isn't reacting to Trump. The "artist" is creating "art" in opposition to "fascism," which is very real and present, and the story will showcase the triumph of the marginalized over the forces of oppression or whatever the hell thinly veiled allegory he can invent. It's like the Captain Marvel go home panel; illegal immigrants from Central America aren't explicitly mentioned, but the discerning reader will note the obvious parallel to the injustice that's occurring everyday here in the real world.

Oh I thought he was literally going to be mad at Trump. My mistake
With the shit editing at Marvel in place now, Strange being mad at Trump will be the reason he leaves Earth.

Idea forming...

Strange flees Earth and faces problems all over the universe. After realizing that you can't run away from your problems. Strange decides to fight back. Not metaphorically of course, but literally. Strange comes back to America, punches nazi president Trump (while ripping off the classic Captain America cover art), and then everyone claps. The end.

Sounds like that one toy review I read about Stretch Armstrong (yeah, TDS spreads that far.)

Kyle Ritter's StarBlades is doing well right out of the gate:

Based on his 1-day total, I would expect that he'll end up somewhere around $100k for this project, and honestly I want to see the toy line. This reminds me of BraveStarr and SilverHawks, and is absolutely beautiful to look at.

Seems like a really sweet, hard-working dude and he has 100% stayed out of Twitter drama.

Please clap.

Wait? Is Marvel officially crowdfunding a book? Or are Marvel’s “female editorial staff” using Marvel’s name to draw funding and exposure to themselves? (Not to mention what looks like Carol Danvers artwork)?
It’s a new female-centered anthology series. My guess is that it’s a way for the executives to show they’re providing work to women while people like Hickman continue to hog the big name books.

They shouldn't beg for praise. Desperation isn't cute

It's coming out tomorrow, just need to hit those virtue bucks by advertising it's an all women's book.
