Being the early adopter that I am (started on the oculus DK1 and now with room dedicated wireless vive setup) I'm always on the lookout for the most fiscally promising consumer-oriented applications of this technology. Naturally anything that leads to deviant acts is no.1 on the list. In this particular example (see videos) we're starting with what is basically a soft body physics simulator geared toward making virtual dollies and bringing them to life, down to the pours on their skin and beyond.
The detail you put in is only limited by your imagination. Said dollies can then be used in games.
The first full body haptics suit is coming out before end of 2019 from bhaptics. It is primitive technology utilizing hundreds of micro-rumble motors with the basic sensors required to drive them. But it is an important half measure and will serve as a great test bed for adapting dolly simulations to physical actuators for make benefit virtual sex or even torture acts. I've already ordered the full set.
After that the fabled tesla suit courtesy of a bunch of post-soviet deviants from Belarus is set to hit the market in the next 2-3 years. They've demonstrated it at conventions and it is no joke. It uses pump based fluid pressure dynamics alongside electrodes and temperature regulators to simulate wet, cold, hot, slimy, rugged, pain, numbness and many things in between. It will be a full body haptics suit that can simulate most sensations and temporarily cripple and manipulate muscle groups as needed. In short, 2020-2022 is the magic period where consumer level technology in this field catches up to our imaginations.
Naturally the first killer app of such suits will be those enabling virtual physical acts. I plan to use this dolly simulator to generate some convincing-enough dollies that can be donned as avatars. Will place them into unity and start working on a realistic vr chat of sorts, with support for haptics from the ground up being the central focus. The project begins with this thread.
