Unpopular Opinions About Western Animation

Still not as ugly as ok ko and its horribly saturated colors and ball hands

Not exactly unpopular opinion, though (especially when compared to something like Da Pedo-attractor House.) - a lot of people HATE this show (OK K.O.) because of how unremarkably cheap it looks, besides not being able to taken very seriously in any sense, despite that being the creator's intention, in their own words, too.

Well, that explains why it never really took off that well, despite having 3 seasons, unlike a certain show about gay space rocks..... Which is rather sad in itself, honestly.

The Spongebob fanbase is basically one big echo-chamber, where you're not allowed to say anything nice about certain episodes, especially if it wasn't directed by the Hillenburg. It pretty much ruined my enjoyment for the series at one point.

On a related note, seasons 6-8 were definitely a lot better than I remembered, they're just mediocre seasons, not really horrible for the most part. It's definitely done better compared to most other cartoons that lasted more than 10 years.

It's also filled to the brim with mentally unwell people who treat the characters like they're real people.

It actually makes me wonder how people would feel about certain episodes from the pre-movie era if they were made later.

In the cartoon discord chat I'm in, a lot of people in there actually shill for season 4 (and when I mean shill, they're literally like "season 4 is the best season of Spongebob, all episodes of season 4 are amazing") and shit like that and are more willing to take a shit on pre-movie, weirdly enough.

People disliked season 4 back in the Enter-filled days. Now things have changed it seems.

I think most of season 4 and about half of season 5 had more or less the same quality as seasons 1-3. Even the producers were able to make a few excellent episodes in season 6-8.

I'd say Season 4. Seasons 5-8 were okay...but ehhh, the only one that really stood out for me from 5-8 was the Krusty Dogs episode and the episode where Spongebob becomes "normal".

I will say that one of the few episodes I legitimately don't like from that era would probably be the one where Spongebob and Patrick make Squidward giant. The episode just felt like it had potential, but it was wasted on pointless bullshit.

Yeah, I didn't like that one either.

My personal least favorite of that era and probably the whole show was the 10th-anniversary special, Truth or Square. It lacked comedy, it lacked drive, it lacked energy, and it was really, really, really underwhelming for a 10th-anniversary special.

not to say I watch the show on a weekly basis (and i don't, merely occasionally), but i looked in at the 20th anniversary special, and while childish and it lacked plot structure, it was much better than Truth or Square

Rocket Power and Catdog were fucking obnoxious cartoons.

The Justice Friends should have been it's own cartoon series instead of just a mini segment on Dexter's Lab.

Lucky from King of the Hill didn't bother me that much.
From what I remember everyone despised Rocket Power and CatDog. Rocket Power is probably the most hated Klasky Csupo show.

Speaking of I liked KC’s style. The story boarder that pissed off fan artists who drew the characters as adult hipsters even said they drew everyone lumpy and ugly on purpose to keep the Eastern European style intact.

The only cartoon from them that is unforgivably ugly is As Told By Ginger.

More:

1. Danny Phantom was an interesting idea that should have had been better handled. Make up your mind whether you're doing a parody of superheroes that doesn't take itself too seriously or if you're doing a legit superhero story with laughs here and there. Keep Butch Hartman at a distance (especially with his weird claims about ghosts that are at odds with too many of them, which root in his own religion apparently) since his talents aren't really in drama.

2. Aaron Ehasz has been overrated as a backlash against Bryke for Legend of Korra. While I have misgivings about Avatar, I find the idea that Ehasz was holding back the other two which enabled The Last Airbender to turn out how it did silly. Mind you, while I see Legend of Korra was mediocre at best TLA had notable problems too (Book 3, the Air Nomads being shangri-la).

3. Moral Oral is the peak of "Adult" cartoons since it has sincerity.

That is extremely sad, I loved where it went in the third season.

I believe one of the plans was to have Orel be reunited with his dying grandfather or something, and their relationship would grow and develop. There was also supposedly plans to have Orel become gothic after the grandfather died, which I personally wouldn't have visualized for the character.

Don't know if this counts but Spongebob fucking sucks now and the gross out humor is bad.

Like when did they switch from actual plot to fucking disgusting shit?

Nah, that's more like season 6. Season 7 was just plagued with lazy writing, and Season 8 was just forgettable in my opinion. The stuff they do nowadays (Seasons 10-present) is definitely far more reliant on slapstick and weird faces than actual gross-out. Even the episodes with gross-out aren't as prevalent anymore.
