What era and location in human history would you live in, given the choice?

Earlier in the thread Holden said that his ideal societies from history were ancient Roman / Greek era(Rome under Augustus? I can't remember the specifics), but in the modern day it could be done without slavery. Failing that, 1800's England.

mostly correct, but note that greek era is kinda vague. i like athens. sparta seems really specific and mostly military oriented and i don't know enough about how other state cities lived.
