Former Rare and Free Radical Design veteran Steve Ellis has joined THQ Nordic to work on whatever's next for TimeSplitters.

Ellis is described by THQ Nordic as co-creator of the much-loved, much-missed British shooter franchise - which the publisher snapped up from former owner Crytek this time last year.

In a press release today, THQ Nordic said Ellis had "joined us to help plot the future course for this franchise". It's unknown what a new TimeSplitters game might look like now - a sequel? a remake? - or who else from that original team nearly two decades ago may return.

Crytek held the TimeSplitters rights for years after rescuing developer Free Radical Design from bankruptcy, but never found time to do anything with them. Here's hoping something moves forward now.
I know I shouldn't, but I'm letting myself get my hopes up now that they're finally showing an interest in this IP.

Sweet I assumed ages ago it'd be another dead IP
Also on that note did anyone else ever follow the fan made multiplayer (now also story remake) game that's still in dev?

If my memory's correct they got the blessing of Crytek at the time but since it's with THQ now it'd be a shame if they threw a c&d

I would really like to see Rewind still exist as its own thing, firstly because it would suck for the guys making it to suddenly have the project crushed after all these years, and secondly because I'd much rather see THQ Nordic put out a NEW TimeSplitters game.

Hell yes! I've been dreaming about the return of TimeSplitters for over a decade.

TimeSplitters 2 and Future Perfect are some of my favorite FPS and I never got to play the multiplayer online, the thought of finally being able to is a wet dream.

And thank goodness it's THQ Nordic doing it because only they would have the balls to keep the pinup style female characters, without which there would be no point to making a new TimeSplitters at all, it was a crucial element of the games' aesthetics.

Here's hoping they'll churn out modern ports of the old series. I never got to play it.

Emulations probably your best bet (unless by some miracle we actually get Rewind at some point) given the high price you'll probably have to pay for the two games. 2 works fine on PSCX but FP has a couple rough segments during campaign where the FPS crashes (with no survivors) but it's nothing game-breaking.

Maybe it's my pessimism speaking, most of the old series devs are planning to make sequels for seem to all have bad outcomes like Shenmue and Vampire Bloodline, I'd rather the dev remaster the PS2 era Timesplitter series and bring them to Steam and modern consoles.

You could potentially combine 2 and Future Perfect into one game and make a remake of it with an all new graphics engine, that'd be pretty neato.

I'd rather THQ do a new game and have the Rewind guys do the remakes. Apparently they're close to releasing TS1 levels in remade form and I love the idea of rooting for the fans to do something with the IP before a big studio.

TBH just hire those guys to bring the remake to consoles and steam with what they already have, you'd make infinite money without needing to spend much

One question is if this will be a sequel or a reboot.

Future Perfect seemed to have a pretty definitive ending and I believe the original planned TimeSplitters 4 was supposed to be a soft reboot storywise, wasn't it?
