To people in that part of the internet, a destroyed reputation is more effective than calling the cops. The allegations don't even need to be real or proven in the court of law.

Even when there is an actual offender, the Tumblr/Helldump school of making callout posts (especially half assed ones with nothing fucking archived) just allows evidence to be deleted and the perpetrators to move to another state. Case in point, what happened to GlitchedPuppet/PurpleKecleon when the chatlogs dropped. People on Tumblr decided they'd rather mass report and make callout posts and while their online reputation is ruined they're still free legally. The same goes with many of the zoosadists, a few were arrested (including the Cuban guy) but a lot simply DFE'd and rebranded or tried to clear their name Kero style. I haven't heard of many people who have been arrested from callout posts but I've seen a lot of people DFE and rebrand after them.

It is perhaps the shittiest method of handling abuse cases one can think of.

That's a common thing in that part of Twitter. Every time someone gets attacked on social media for saying something stupid or because drama blew up in their face, they'll shout "muh mentions" and lock their account. Then a bunch of beta orbiters offer virtual RP hugs and canned support messages which are hollow and artificial.

I just read the long reddit post on niwt reddit it's fucking cringe. They wrote a wall of text clearly stating that alec had problems that people whispered about him at cons and women were advised not to stay in the same hotel room as him

All they had was a bunch of rumors is that enough to prove he was an abuser.good luck to them they just provided a handbook on how to ruin a mans life.just spread rumors,and whispers at conventions and then accuse the target of rape.

They even admitted everything they knew about him was rumors.
