Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

I look at it as what Vic losing vs. Vic never bringing the case in the first place, and Vic never bringing the case seems way worse.
That's something important to keep in mind going forward, even if Vic doesn't win everything, he still wins. He's at least got Soye/Rial on lock, Funi isn't escaping either imo - but even if they do, there are still 2nd party shitheads to deal with like Funi's mouthpiece ANN and potential couch-keeper Sabat. Funi's brand gets more tarnished by the day, Toei is eyeing their Spanking-paddle, Sony is an outed WOKE censorious joke (with companies like RT and CR not far behind in the race to the bottom), and now even the hardest of hardcore dub shills are finding reasons to swear off dubs for good and to support Japan at the source.

At the end of the day all of this centers around a general push-back against the SJW co-opting of anime, Vic's lawsuit was just the catalyst for it. Even if he doesn't win everything, this event has done damage to malicious parties and outed animu-licensing for being the incestuous Left-leaning industry it is. While minor antagonists like RT may get out scott free - this case has and is STILL irrevocably damaging Funimation's brand/employees, and is showing Japan that their properties are not in good hands. Never forget that simply spreading the word to normies is probably the best weapon at our disposal. In the best case scenario where Vic cleans house, its a double-win because that court precedence will help many MANY men in the future to stay safe from lying old THOTs.

I could be wrong here, but isn't public figure status for defamation not retroactive? You cant just call someone a child raping monster to get them fired and then launch them into public figure status to defend yourself.

He wasnt a public figure before being fired, hes at best limited public figure now that he has been defamed.

It's interesting they use his Broly character as what makes him a public figure because he voiced a one-off character 20 times (4 in video, 16 in video games) Yet won't use his 112 episodes as Edward in FMA.

It's because of the numbers. The Broly movie did really good, and the defendant counsels are trying to argue that the movie fame is somehow Vic's fame.
They were even disingenuous enough to bring up the internationnal numbers, you know, because Vic has something to do with people watching Broly in german...

Can anyone even name someone in America who became a celebrity because of voice work (That movie trailer guy MAYBE) ? I would say trying to become famous through voice work is trying to give Sisyphus a run for his money.

Based purely on you calling him that movie trailer guy, might be safe to say he wasnt all that famous.

Tom Kenny, Jim Cummings, and I'm spent.

I doubt his involvement is irrelevant to Friday's hearing. Someone with experience in immigration projects is going to know a lot about employment law.

BHBH waited to announce his appearance to avoid signaling their strategy.

This man rides to town to put down Funimation.

His resume lines up extensively with BHBH’s general areas of practice. And Ty said they were currently understaffed. He may be joining BHBH.

You know, the role hes primarily known for in the anime community.
Even so, voicing a publicly recognizable character (which I think would be a huge stretch for Broly or Edward Elric) doesn't make the voice actor a public figure. I'm pretty sure no one could pick Wayne Allwine out of a line-up even if they knew who he voiced.

Oh, I wouldnt even fathom to claim Vic (or any VA for that matter) is a public figure because hes well known for one role in a relatively small niche of entertainment.

Very late and and very gay, but...

When you were all arguing about what it takes for a VA to be a public figure, some of you brought up Tara Strong.
I would argue that even Tara Strong, as big of a VA as she is, is nowhere near the status of a public figure, and there is one event that proves it.

Tara Strong is the voice of the main character of My Little Pony, not a small role. And not so long ago, Hasbro decided to make a MLP movie.
When they put out a teaser, they listed all the guest VA, the Emily Blunt, the Liev Schrieber, the Zoe Saldana, but guess who was missing ?
That's right, none of the VA for the main characters of the show were listed in that teaser, not even the actual main protagonist's, Tara Strong.
Of course the fans of the show were upset, and in the next piece of advertisement, they aknowledged the actual main cast of the show.
But in the end, for the teaser of the movie, Tara Strong wasn't considered public enough to be credited...

VA are no public figures... I mean, do you know who Charles Martinet is ? Probably not, but you surely know his voice (google it).

I mean, Vic was such a public figure they replaced his voice in the trailer and nobody fucking noticed.

But yes, such public figure.

so this picture right here. this is going to be sitting in my arsenal until tomorrow.

so if you guys want to use this picture if we have a revelation for tomorrow, here you go.

Apparently, there is a high probability that in the next month at least 3 defendants will have to change their Internet lawyer under the weight of circumstances.
Although... I think that the power of their denial is so great that maybe they will be able to resist temptation.
