My current theoretical timeline for the Funi "investigation" and the early conspiracy.
Vic gets offered a director position and more prominent roles from someone in the wake of Broly, the offer is enticing enough for him to move out to Texas.
Sabat finds out and realizes that he's going to lose his ability to strangle Vic out of VA roles, as a director position will give Vic more influence and staying power - and the massive hit role of Broly risks kicking him right up into stardom (as much as an anime VA can have).
Sabat has an emergency meeting about what to do.
Monica, who has the longest history with Vic and lots of brownie points to cash in with the community offers (or is assigned) to come up with a story to ruin Vic.
Kickvic kicks off the day of Broly's release. Most likely this is orchestrated somehow, given the Marzgurl-ANN connection, and the fact that people like Monica like/retweet Hanleia's totally stupid tweet (perhaps Hanleia's stupid is completely organically grown, but it's used as the foundation for the completely inorganic hashtag and ensuing furor).
Behind the scenes, Monica sends an email or phonecall to either Tammi Denbow or Colleen Clickenbeard with a variation of her kiss sob story. They believe her - charitably, Colleen has been friends with Monica so long that she absolutely believes Monica, and thus she vouches for her with Tammi. Technically, the assault didn't happen on Funimation property nor on their time, though, so firing him over that story alone might be a hard sell, given he was being considered for promotion and just had a hit movie.
ETA: most likely given what Chuck says Gen said, Sabat vouched for Monica's reliability in some way just to grease the wheels.
Thus, Tammi and/or Colleen wisely decide to start an investigation into Vic to see if there's anything else they can use. (Alternatively if Sabat thinks he's hot stuff enough, he could have included an investigation on purpose for later defamation, but that's being too charitable to Sabat's cleverness) The investigation turns up three other stories of note - the Jellybean story (a second Monica event) that could be construed to happen while they were 'representing' Funimation, the kiss story that happened on Funimation property (provided by Monica), and the Twins' story (who conveniently lived with Monica) that could also be construed to somehow impact Funimation's image.
Because it's an official investigation, they have to contact Vic about these stories. He denies them.
It doesn't matter, Tammi was already going to recommend firing because of the hotel room story. Thus, she says that the accusations are 'credible' and immediately recommends his termination. Funimation is in such a hurry to kick him out that they don't bother to follow their own procedure to do so and just call him to inform him. They make sure to tell Vic not to contact any of the women involved.
Funimation leaks the firing to ANN immediately after telling Vic that they'll keep it confidential.
Rooster Teeth laughs off the accusations on Twitter at this point and tell Vic they don't believe a word of it, don't worry.
Monica emails Rooster Teeth with the same sob story she used in Funimation, begging them to fire him because she can't work in GEN;lock if he's voicing someone in their company at all. "Also pls don't tell Vic, he emailed me and harassed me after the Funimation investigation, I don't feel safe!"
RT fires Vic and very professionally refuses to tell him why. Monica emails them again, patting them on the back for doing the right thing, and they email back their sympathies for what she had to go through.
Monica starts harassing Tammi Denbow freaking out because Funimation's promise to keep the investigation and firing situation confidential is preventing her from talking about it properly, so she's getting attacked and harassed on twitter and literally having a mental break. She's in fear for her life. People want to kill her! Please, Funimation has to let her say something! Also Funimation needs to say something! Pretty please!!!!! (probably she has similar emails to RT, since they also make a public statement)
Funimation tweets out, breaking their confidentiality promise and defaming Vic, causing a cascade of con removals.
Somewhere along this time, Ron and Monica contact cons via text, offering or threatening sponsorships of either Funimation or Tuttle, spreading the insane hotel accusation and then adding 'but please don't tell, keep it our special secret, you'll interfere with the criminal investigation that's definitely happening right now'.
During all this, Marchi is on Twitter pissing people off and organizing a discord for people who want to make up their own Vic stories, including Jessie Pridemore and Emmett Plant.
Sabat is meanwhile in the background orchestrating the Funimation TI that Monica and Ron can't and whipping his VAs into shape, ensuring no one speaks up in Vic's defense and as many people as possible join in with 'supporting' Monica. He supports her himself as well, including saying 'the only bus running over Vic is one he did to himself'. He backs all the way off and goes silent once #istandwithvic starts to pick up speed and idiots like Samantha start screwing things up.
