Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Mr Tickles' posts in the Hong Kong Megathread. Sure he's probably trolling, but people took the bait and now the whole thread is a cluster fuck of people shrieking about ChiCom shills.

If anything, I wouldn't say the problem with this board is dogpiling, it's people taking themselves and their opinions so seriously. You're on fucking Kiwi Farms. You're here to laugh at the stupid, why not extend that to yourself and current affairs?

Another good example would be a few of @Cosmos posts on A&H and pretty much everything @Ashy the Angel post. I see them get hit by 30 negative sticker downvotes on average when A&H gets pissed. I think 5 people disagreeing with you (which is honestly a more respectful stick anyway) doesn't come anywhere close to dogpiling.

Nobody is forcing anybody to scroll down, highlight, and click "Articles and Happenings" on the front page. This is a problem that already solves itself, if people could simply live and let live.

I know, I know. Part of the whole "having thick skin" thing.

But what I was getting at is... well, what kind of site IS Kiwi Farms supposed to be? Is broadening its scope for the best? Does this board fit?

If it is, then...

If it’s public people have a right to post in it. Dissenters or not.

I don't think the people who are pro- keeping this board (including myself, admittedly - it's a nice place to get snippets you wouldn't see anywhere else) are saying people who disagree with the circlejerk should be barred from posting. Quite the opposite, actually, since a lot of people identify the board's slant being more a symptom of its subject matter than an inherent problem.

I'd argue closing this board and increasing moderation fall on the same side, which plays into me wondering what sort of site Kiwi Farms is supposed to be, or should be for the sake of its health.

Then again, with CloudFlare looming, maybe all of this arguing is all for naught regardless. What's the point debating the merits of a single board, when it and the rest of the site may be living on borrowed time?

As someone who is a social conservative, I have to say that trolling the /Pol/tards on A&H is pretty fun. They don't get nuance that much and don't accept that this site's culture is lolcow based and thus bipartisan in its mockery.

I think the best part of a&h is when we rather talk about weird situations that evolves into something else instead of politics, I mean there was 2 separate occasions in my experience, where some regular stuff evolved into a thread:
-First time was when the br president got his jimmies rustled because some guy peed in public at a carnival event.

I mean if there was an a&h focusing only on weird events (like the one of that ukrainian child dwarf sociopath) that would be great to distract a bit and could even be opportunities to discover new lolcows, unfortunately the areas between this and heavy political stuff could be very shady being completely impractical.

I agree when it comes to unecesary hate to @Ashy the Angel but the guy atleast posts his opinion and isnt afraid to defend it ( even though 99% of the times that opinion is some excepcional shit) , but from what i have seen from @Cosmos A&H posts every time he posts he either A) posts a uwu wholesome animal thread that most people dont really care outside of a thats nice, B) an excepcional stunning and brave hot take like murder is bad m'kay or C) bitching about A&H so i wouldnt consider him a good example of someone getting unnesary hate

If by "something of substance" you mean things that are inside your window of acceptable discourse - I don't think that's a fair thing to ask of people. The difference is that GBS wasn't actually rightwing and the "complaints" were coming from a group of commie larpers. If anything, this has more in common with the rest of the site getting sick of LF's bullshit and finally locking their rat nest, but only after the damage was already done.
