Articles & Happening Meta Discussion

Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Discuss.

New threads should be made like this.

Null loves money, doesn't want to get pushed off the clear net and seems to think that he has to shepherd bad lefty threads or his center-left site is in danger of turning into a hard right hugbox where normal users are afraid to post.

Null also has Moon Man lyrics in the sign up, hosts things like The Culture Of Critique when Amazon pulls it from their store and invites trouble from large organizations that have a long memory.

The two seem incompatible.
I think that the only solution is for Null to make like 50 left-wing accounts to post in A&H threads that get more based than they need to be in order to balance out the conversation.

Do you think I'm popular with the so-called /pol/ crowd?

I'm @MrTickles ' second in command when it comes to being redpilled on the chink question. You guys should really stop taking confronting views so seriously.

If by "something of substance" you mean things that are inside your window of acceptable discourse - I don't think that's a fair thing to ask of people. You shouldn't be expected to respond to or take seriously anyone calling you an autistic exceptional individual for your views, but I seriously doubt that's what the lefty people are complaining about.
Lol no. @The Pink Panther is the only one I was really talking to but that’s mostly because he was the only one who was relatively nice to me.

I don’t hate anyone for being on the right. My dad and a huge chunk of the rest of my family are right wingers. It’s when people are more interested in insults and acting pseudo intelligent that I’m not interested in them.

The only solution here is to make halal threads of anyone who gets more than a hundred negative ratings in A&H automatically.
Desperate times call for extreme measures
Mark every poster who has ever posted in A&H with a mark of shame so we, the morally and their superior in every way, can discriminate them before shipping them off to the concentration boards

Literally the whole site

Seriously. I saw more spergfit buttrages on Yaniv’s thread and Zoe Quinn’s thread than I’ve seen on A&H. The autism has infected the whole site, not sure why A&H is singled out other than babies crying to Null that they got their feelings hurt when they shitposted here.

Admittedly I just lurk the occasional cow thread or subforum and really only post here. It's a lot easier to come up with an interesting article or funny political joke than post something insightful or new about a cow that people have followed for a long time and really put a lot of effort into. I kinda feel like I'd just shit that up.

I probably am one of the people "dog-piling" in this subforum, but I don't see it as particularly bad as at least half of the dog-piling seems to be good natured ribbing to me. I think the groupthink in weebwars is much worse.

Wimps and posers leave the hall A&H. End of.
I couldn’t care less what happens to A&H but this is the same shit that led to Something Awful and NeoGAF/ResetEra being what they are today, having been on both for the good days and what’s there now. Is it worth appeasing a couple of pissbabies who can’t handle people challenging their opinion? Seems kind of gay to me.
Same, getting a lot of Déjà vu.

TL;DR I hate to say it - and I'm not saying it - but maybe Kiwi Farms isn't the place for this kind of discussion.
Doesn't this discussion parallel exactly what happened between Null and the old guard when he created the lolcow board? I think any purist talk died when this website stopped being about Chris (exclusively), surely? It grew, it changed, it continues to grow and change.

I think you also have to ask yourself why A&H has become one of the bigger boards. Obviously it serves some purpose if countless users continue to read and participate here. Forums have become increasingly niche and the ones that have survived are either authoritarian shitholes or ghost towns, which coupled with increasingly stricter rules on social media it's no wonder why this board has blew up the way it has.

And, as the userbase have grown and its interests have broadened, it's not only become host to more of such discussion outside of mocking weirdos, but may have reached a crossroads on that very matter. Handle it poorly, and this site risks walking the same path as sites like Something Awful and Neogaf, whose mission statements have shifted gears into ones more conducive to a downward spiral, rooted in the ballooning of their userbases, and culminating in their slow descents into obscurity. If it's the health of the site we're talking about, then look to our wise prophet Terry's warnings of the "bloat and die" paradigm of content saturation.
I can't speak to Something Awful, but I think this is an unfair description of what happened at NeoGAF. NeoGAFs downfall was brought by certain users and moderation trying to curate their board into purity. Evidently it doesn't work, and I think anyone hinting at it is misguided. A much easier and saner goal would be to try to encourage more diverse viewpoints.

I think the general guideline to follow when discussing in A&H is that you need to place more focus on sharing why you think something or take a particular stance on a subject as opposed to insisting that your viewpoints be accepted as truth.

Discussion is king and is meant to be an exchange of information that we may not have. Just share your info and leave it up to the other individual to digest that whatever way they choose.

It's not a bad place to find weird news stories but all the discussion is cursed right wing autism. There is a lot of cool/overlooked stories posted there, but reading the comments is a waste of time. I'm not sure how you would improve the quality of the forum without modding people to take out the trash.

If you disagree with something, say so. Don't be whiney homo about it, have the balls to embrace it. Otherwise just don't look?

Maybe start making it a guideline to keep politics out of A&H. I know, I know, politics is news too. But most people here can't seem to keep from going off the rails and larping as /pol/ posters on almost every thread. I know in another response on this thread you said that people need to learn to have actual discussion, but for once i'm going to stop being so optimistic and outright say that with the current userbase on this board, it is simply not possible.
As a side note I got a good laugh out of the fact that your second sentence was "It is a cursed place."

KYS. See how easy that was, @Questionable Ceviche ?
