He's an asshole. If he's going to preach like some kind of fucking templar over how moral and righteous the crusade against piracy is, he damn well better be a paragon of moral perfection himself.

Piracy, despite the hyperventilating dramaticism of calling it that, is viewed by the vast majority of people as at worst on the level of a civil offense, or as something like speeding. Maybe they don't approve of it but most people have done it themselves at least once.

No, Jesus didn't tell Judas to, and he didn't give his blessing with a kiss, that was how Judas signaled the guards to arrest him. He knew he was going to be sold out, and he let his friends know about the up-coming betrayal, but he didn't know by whom. Although he told Peter that he was going to deny him three times before the cock crowed, and Peter didn't believe it at first, but he feared he was going to be imprisoned if he said he was affiliated with Jesus.

The apostles were all persecuted regardless. They all understood that and followed Christ anyway, even chose to continue preaching across the land after his ascension, and they were all killed for it.
