edit: added tons of links and receipts, scroll down to see.
Yeah, as soon as I saw all the people in this thread saying this isn’t a real phenomenon, my first thought was “well I guess these people aren’t in many leftbook groups.” Most leftbook groups have banned genital discourse threads because they’re always such dumpster fires. Half the people say what OP of this post is saying - that last long as people aren’t being transphobic about it then their genital preferences aren’t transphobic - While the other half (yes, around 50%) of the commenters argue that having ANY genital preference for ANY REASON, including trauma, is still violently transphobic. No, I’m not exaggerating. If you think I’m exaggerating then you can’t have spent much time in many leftbook groups. This is why I only go on Reddit anymore.
Edit:
someone else saying they’ve witnessed this too. It’s not just me.
Edit: for a while there were a lot of people on tumblr and leftbook saying ANY AND ALL genital preferences are transphobic, and parroting the same responses to anyone who said genital preference was a major part of their sexuality. They’d say things like “if you can’t figure out how to have sex without genitals involved then your sex life is boring and you’re boring.” Then when people would ask “wait what? you can have sex without genitals? what?” They’d suddenly be like “ewww don’t ask me personal questions about my sex life!! If you can’t think of a way to get off without involving genitals you’re a boring uncreative person.”
I have witnessed exchanges like this multiple times on both leftbook and tumblr. Enough times that it wasn’t a single sock account incident or weirdo. I saw the same talking points and responses trotted out many times.
Yes, one could argue they leftbook and tumblr are both deserving of eyerolls. But OP is basically saying this stuff never ever happens, and to not speak out against it as if it’s something real. Well, it’s real. I’ve seen it firsthand plenty. Anyone who hasn’t should consider themselves lucky to be so unaffiliated with leftbook/sjw tumblr.
Edit: adding sources to prove what I’m saying, because I know it sounds wild. I can only link tumblr sources because leftbook is all closed groups, but rest assured that the insular community of leftbook ups the insanity even more than anything I link here.
1-
trauma-based penis repulsion isn’t transphobic... except actually yes it is, and you need to unlearn your penis repulsion ASAP!!!
2-
it’s okay to have genital preference if you’re a lesbian. unless you read to the end of this long ass post where actually no it’s not okay, it’s transphobic.
Notice how it always starts with “yes it’s okay, but...” then a bunch of wordy discourse, followed by “...and that’s why actually it’s not okay.” Very manipulative.
3-
here’s a much more straightforward post
4-
“honestly y’all are wild if you’re basing all relationships on a person’s genitals”
5-
uwu repulsion is such a mean word for how you feel about penis
6-
true genitalia repulsion is a psychological affliction
7-
it’s ok for asexuals to be penis-repulsed, but it’s transphobic for lesbians to be
8-
from Twitter, not sucking dick = transphobia
9-
from Twitter, bringing up your trauma to explain your genital preference is wrong and you just don’t get it
10-
This one speaks for itself.
11-
This weirdo posting “receipts” of a teenaged lesbian saying she doesn’t like dick, and tagging it with “oh wow” and “transmisogyny” Then the teen lesbian who said it got harassed and stalked so badly she deleted her account off the site. Because the dominant discourse on tumblr is that you HAVE to be sexually available to people with penis. I’m not just linking you to a lone lunatic who thinks that way. Multiple people coordinated to
gather receipts on her and harass her, until she apologized repeatedly.
see here and
here. She kept getting harassed and finally deleted her account.
Here’s some people talking about what happened.
12-
establishing sexual boundaries and not being sexually available to trans women = transmisogyny
Even if you want to pretend these are all just total crazies on tumblr, you can’t pretend it’s not happening at all. It is. And if you look into it on tumblr (and leftbook, which is a lot harder to get into as a lurker) you’ll find that this is STILL the
dominant discourse. You will absolutely still get banned from leftie/SJW online spaces if you say you think it’s okay for anyone - ANYONE - to be repulsed by penis for any reason, including trauma.
Saying this doesn’t happen when it does happen strikes me as a sort of gaslighting. It makes me wish I’d been better at “gathering receipts” going back to
2011 when I first started noticing these threads.
Source: I was very active on leftie/SJW tumblr from 2001-2015ish, and then very active on leftbook from 2015-2017. I only “peaked” and stopped drinking the koolaid very recently. I’ve seen this all firsthand and it’s an iceberg, meaning there is so much of it that you (redditors) don’t see because leftie/SJW spaces are often, by design, very hidden from lurkers. But the follower counts are frequently in the tens of thousands, so it’s not just lone crazies.
