Aaah... the "local audience" argument.
Nothing sounds more tolerant than assuming that people can't understand a foreign society.
"But, but, but, we're american, we can't possibly understand what a riceball is, we have to pretend it's a donut instead".
And that's the people who call you racist when you disagree with them...

Imagine if every burger in a hollywood movie was replaced with a taco in the spanish version and a pizza in the italian version.
Sounds stupid, doesn't it?

You're right, but that doesn't even apply here, since the Funimation idiots added something to the script that wasn't there in the first place.

The fact that it's political bullshit makes it worse.

That was an argument made in one of the tweets...
"Factoring in the culture and it makes sense"... No thanks, I don't want katanas to be called "rapière" in french or "zweihänder" in german.
Japanese school animes are set in japanese schools, let's keep it that way please, otherwise a lot of things won't make any sense anymore.
I'm not stupid, I can understand that japanese people have their own culture, and I can even understand their etiquette.
It's just the same as not wanting american culture to be removed from american movies when they're translated.

Vic posted some pictures of the baby shark he used to take care of. Again, stands out just how much kindness and positivity his tweets radiate compared to other people's tweets.

Thats a horrible reasoning
"Factoring in the culture and it makes sense". Yes, it makes sense that you add political messages about misogyny on cartoons that you yourself didn't even make to factor in the culture. God, how do these people live?

1. Yeah, unironically inserting The Patriarchy is so much better. Fuckin' idiot.
2.
>uses clown meme: RAPIST!
>uses evil witch meme: hah hah, hee hee!
3.
>we need to be in control of localizations, because we're so specialized and good at it and no one else could do that job!
>our translations are obvious and relatable to the average fan.

When she's talking about inserting something into the script for her personal reasons, then that's a stupid defense. Proper interpretation and insertion like that are two different, easily discernible things.
They're stupid, but that's not a surprise.

Thats against the Rules. We are just here to watch and observe, just like god.

I was being sarcastic. I doubt there is a Kiwi that would take action to save Martin Brettnik.

Although his family may want closure after walking into his house, seeing "Nick Rekieta!!!!!" Scrawled all over the walls with Martin weeping at his computer, unshaven and unbathed.

So now its a set up. Waiting for the "ITS ME AUSTIN" moment to happen

It's called Culturalization. It's like Localization, except you change the content to match the culture of the target intended audience, while keeping the overreaching work's meaning. For example, changing references to Shinto to something more religiously generic (or outright Christianity), or changing references to Golden Week. This is why, for example, in old RPGs you might see Crosses replaced with stars, or Buddhist Swastikas removed.

That's when it's done "properly."

Except, Neo-Marxists have their hands in all this shit, so there's a different version, when you change shit to match the culture you want to indoctrinate people to adopt, because they can't put people in reeducation camps and gulags for wrongthink yet, so instead they take the stance that your hobbies and interest determine what you are, and thus if they can "fix" your hobbies and interests, they can fix YOU, indirectly. Or at least, fix your kids.

This was one of the things behind GamerGate, the "Gamers Are Dead" stuff. It's been a few years and I barely remember it, but basically, some Neo-Marxist "academic," Adrienne Shaw from DiGRA, did a study on gaming and identity politics, and discovered that gamers are HEAVILY meritocratic and won't buy into identity politics, and thus there's no fuckign way to force them to want to give bonus points to a player because she has a cunt, or to accept faster dungeon queues for players with brown skin, or what have you. Ergo, because gamers won't accept IdPol, the gamer "identity" has to be subverted and destroyed.

Worse, she took the same research and found the EXACT OPPOSITE conclusions in two different papers. Because she's a "feminist academic" and fuck your logic and reasoning and ethics and shit, she has politics to push.

Sargon did a video on it here, which is actually damn near impossible to find (for a while, Youtube would NOT give it out on search results, even still it's now nearly a full page down in the search results):

Culturalization is mostly an artifact of the past at this point; thanks to the modern connectedness of the world, there's little need to change Golden Week to something more palatable for americans since you can just look it all up online on some gaming wiki at this point. I think this is why some of the more Japanese culture-heavy game franchises like Persona are able to do so well now. But i guess some just view it as a n opportunity to virtue signal, as usual.

Hey dumbfucks we hated it when 4kids did it, we hate it when you do. We really hate it when you do it.

when will companies learn? changing the message to fit narratives will only earn you scorn. hopefully funi burns to the ground to make this message crystal fucking clear. anime fans have nothing but contempt for script changers like jamie.

Oh no, an attourney defends a not so good person and makes bank. Quick, make laws against that.

That smelly middle aged fujoshit can do whatever she wants, she's still an old, dried up turd that has nothing going on in her life apart from some anime and its community.

I think it's simpler than that. They are idiots. It's like giving a dumb fundie the job then trying to work out some ulterior motive for them when weird Christian shit makes it's way in. It's they way they see the world and they don't understand how anyone else sees it. That's why they don't see a problem in their politicized localization efforts.
