Star Trek - Space: The Final Frontier

I knew Discovery was bad, but the 2 or 3 snippets of it in this video alone... Fuck.
Whoever wrote Captain Stronk-Womyn should be beaten to death with a typewriter.

The "He was an idiot" made me recoil from the screen. I shit you not.
Jesus fucking Christ. The saddest bit about STD is that despite everything, the cockmunchers behind it will never lose their jobs, no matter how much they suck at it. A monkey smearing feces on a giant piece of paper could be trusted to write a better script.
That comparison just made me so sad. That beautiful writing of TNG put next to Kurtzman's diarrhea physically hurt. It's especially sad when you consider the clips chosen. Barclay resonated with so many people who were insecure and shy and I always loved how much respect they showed him and his point of view. Sure, he had some comedic episodes, but there was always the point of him managing to overcome his own insecurities and achieve something great. What the fuck is that Short Trek scenes trying to convey? That it's okay to be a quirky cunt when you're in charge?

Really shameful.

Barclay is so endearing, since his personal story is him overcoming his own issues and insecurities. While the Enterprise might be caught up in preventing interstellar war, Barclay has a much more humble storyline, where he learns how to deal with people and himself. I guess anyone can relate to him more or less, since everyone felt insecure at some point or did something awkward.

NuTrek... is different. I guess these mongoloid writers just can't fathom that they can make a female character a strong leader without having her go "You're fired end of discussion!" and then just interrupt the male character, whenever he tries to start a conversation or defend himself.
Picturing Picard in a situation where he is forced to dismiss someone, I can't help but imagine that even after having made his decision, he would allow the other person to say their piece and then either confirm his order or rethink it based on what the other person said. He would, under almost all circumstances, allow the other person to finish talking out of courtesy and respect.

But not this sorry excuse of a "STRONK WAMMAN WHO DON NEED NO MAN!" Captain, she'll just interrupt him and act like a snarky, uppity bitch. Switch the gender roles, just to highlight how fucking aweful this behaviour is... And you know what...
*deep inhale*
... she's even worse than Janeway. Hell, she's even worse than Holdo from TLJ.
There. I said it.

Her "He died, cause he was an idiot" is just icing on the cake. Sure, it's meant to be played for laughs, but ffs, this isn't the fucking Orville, if your shitty characters in your SUPERCEREAL show don't take death seriously, why should the audience?

It's not the first time that pull that kind of crap. The Groundhog Day episode in season 1 had a sequence where you would see Lorca getting killed over and over by Mudd in various ways. I understand that it was a lighter episode but it was really disturbing to see that the writers were treating death like a joke just because it was just a time loop.

Holy shit that's bad. I hadn't watched any of it because it looked bad, but that's fanfic. That Captain is shit and no competent Starfleet captain would have put up with anything after "this conversation is over" meaning it was over. Immediately.

Generic sitcom writing, really? And a 25 year old captain? Pathetic and depressing.

Such a minor character, and yet 30 years later he endures; and 30 years hence, he'll still be as endearing and iconic. I barely remember any of the STD character names (thankfully).

Even the writing of DS9 puts STD to shame.

When you said writing & DS9 that was specifically the episode I was thinking of recommending before I pressed play. God, I miss good Trek.

And people still remember fucking Tasha Yar 30 years later too and nobody even liked her.

The second part is so amateurish and cringey I thought initially it was a fan clip like when nerds dress up to play star wars or something and put it on youtube. The thing about TNG and really all Star Trek up until this current shit is that you actually wanted to live in that Federation, around those people. Seeing how they handled the problem of someone like Barclay makes you respect them and the society that produces people like that. Who the fuck wants to live in the Federation that produces and promotes empty headed sociopathic children like that bitch to positions of authority? What must her ships culture be like? Even Janeway was a professional that cared deeply about every member of her crew.

I don't get why you're all saying Cunty Mcbitchcaptain breaks canon. Within a few years after this short trek takes place, women are no longer deemed capable of holding command in Starfleet for several decades at least.

Clearly this episode is just explaining how that happened.

The second season is way worse because they saw The Orville and now they're trying to add their own cringe humor into Kurtzman Trek. They have completely misunderstood the appeal of MacFarlane's show.
Exactly, even if it puts more of an emphasis on comedy, The Orville actually has the same fundamental strength TNG does: good characters, and once the show gets going this is where the best humor comes from. Bortus growing a mustache is funnier than any of the desperate quips NuTrek can muster, because the character has become endearing to us over many episodes (and that's arguably why it and TNG have slow starts).

It's the same with TNG, I enjoy watching Riker do mundane stuff like cook an omelette for his friends or play the trombone, but Michael Burnham can be in the most epic space battle to save the galaxy and I could not give less of a shit. Worf smashing a lute on a tree is funny because it's Worf doing it. But if NuTrek tried to emulate those features it would just be its shallow, annoying characters with glued on mustaches smashing lutes in poorly lit corridors while screaming about how epic omelettes and math are.

TOS, TNG, VOY and DS9 had characters that were endearing, cause they had interesting personalities, interactions and storylines.
STD tries to make "endearing" characters by ticking of checkboxes of SJW bullshit-bingo lingo.

That Short Trek clip...oh boy.

Oh one hand, I'll give it some slack for being a short meant to be funny, so comparing it to TNG might not be entirely fair.

HOWEVER, Star Trek has a tradition of comedy and goofy episodes, and they typically made it work by making the characters the straight figures to counterbalance the crazy. For example, what makes The Trouble With Tribbles episode funny is Kirk's reaction to a situation he can't control. At no point do the core characters lose their professionalism and the never feel like they don't belong on a starship which is why episodes like Tribbles don't feel out of place in the larger Trek lore despite being silly.

Watching that Trek short, the pissy Captain and H Jon Benjamin (who I like a lot BTW) almost appears to be a parody of Star Trek or like something else entirely. That captain is way too unprofessional to be in a position of authority in the Star Fleet I know, and Benjamin's presence instantly makes me think of Archer and Coach McGuirk, two figures that wouldn't fit into Star Fleet at all.

HOLY SHIT STD writing got so much worse, at least season 1 didn't make feel genuinely nauseous

where does ENT falls? i Think it's tolerable despite it's flaws, it certainly was not as bad as STD is
