He seems like a super naive Boy Scout type who doesn't understand the adult world but strongly disapproves of the sexual degeneracy of the anime community, including Vic's.

I think it's a mixture of fatigue and self-serving. I think the recent burst is the latter.

Here's a fun game to play.
So Nomikai Dallas was early October in Dallas. I don't know what expectations were, but I would assume it didn't do as well as was originally hoped, there's an artist VLOG where she went to the con and has footage of the con. The con is empty, ALL the artists were packing up EARLY to leave, and she notes she didn't even make the $25 in table costs. (and several artists spend a good chunk of the video at HER table screwing around because obviously their tables aren't busy) Also, the con's website is now gone, entirely. It is possible that that's a temporary thing while they retool, but why take down your site entirely during that process?
Anyway, how does this relate? So, point a. (just for fun) is that everyone's favorite Shane is (was?) the chair of Nomikai, further elaboration is certainly unnecsary I'm sure. "But why does any of this matter" you're asking? Good question. So Nomikai was a first year con this year, it had never happened previously. I heard about it a while back when their website was devoid of pretty much any content. There were just a few pages (mainly a big image home screen) but as someone who's been involved with cons for a while I'm one of the few people who might actually care about the content on their original "Who are we?" page. It was notable back then because there were actually several voice actors on their "Board of Directors" (which also explains how this brand new podunk con actually had a pretty good guest list for it's inaugeral year), anyway, take a guess who is (was?) on that Board?

This is why I say it's more self-serving. I don't think this matters to his opinion or feelings on the matter one way or the other. I can completely believe that Chuck really just doesn't want to be involved with this mess at all really and I can even believe he would prefer everyone just works together peacefully (as Shane claimed to want early on), however, I completely believe that the Nomikai board really wanted (and expected) for this to be a profitable endeavor, and getting a bunch of weebs angry at you when you run a con for weebs is bad for business.

And Shane, if you're reading this, even if you wanna say the whole thing was a tax write-off or some other non-profit ideal, you're not going to get any artists or vendors to come back if profit is terrible.

EDIT: OOps, the VLOG was from last year, turnout was terrible then. But the reviews imply it wasn't significantly different in terms of turnout this year, and the missing webpage is strange if it was doing well.

I feel terrible for people like Chuck because you could tell he just wants this community to heal, and it’s beyond his reach.

Chuck is on thin ice and I continue having a hard time defending him. From his actions before the lawsuit started, what we heard he did in response to the TCPA hearing, and now this.

I can't quite get a good read on him. I used to think of him as naive but now I'm leaning toward cowardly and a potential liability.

I also am in complete disagreement with your comparison to Vic and calling his responses "classy." Vic told people to spread positivity and to counter any misinformation. But that's it. Very little public statements relating to the lawsuit or the terrible behavior from his detractor. If what @theworstkindofeurofag is saying is true, Huber was telling abuse victims to turn the other cheek to KV's intolerable behavior. Fuck that. That's the furthest thing from classy. I'd almost call his recent output as damage control at best and gaslighting at worst. In what fucking world have Soye or any of those shitbags that have been directly involve shown "compassion?"

He's dead easy to read, he's trying to stay close to the centre so he can lean whichever way it looks like the case is going and hoping he ends up in someone's good books at the end of this.

Its weird for Chuck to be saying this especially for him after Monica tried to put him on blast and have her posse shit on him and treat him like he is a piece of shit for "silencing victims". After ANN tried make him out as an pyscho (he probably is after seeing this) for being a flat earther. He's just so weird.

Even if he isn't meaning to he's acting like a scheming weasel that's trying to play both sides. Trying to be a moderate voice isn't bad but he's doing it the worst way possible, especially given the nature of the situation.

For anyone still finding Huber hard to read. Look up "Wilson", the worst president the USA ever got. I swear his "pacifist" (only for certain nations...) speeches were basically what Chuck just did and their personalities seem really fucking similar. You just need to remember his explanation for justifying the flat earth through simulations, some people are just so risk averse they'll bend over backwards until their spines break just to "be above it", and well, we all know how Wilson fucking ended now don't we. Yeah people, take it from a left wing pacifist (me), some people just need to be punched in the gonads. Peace is the preferred option, but sometimes it just doesn't work and giving the other side a chance can only end with you finding a new knife stuck in your back.

For those who don't know how wilson ended. His stupid brand of hipocritical pacifism (which only extended to europe as he indeed is also remembered as the founder of wilsonian imperialism, aka nice oil you got there would be a pity if democracy liberated it) resulted in the rise of bolshevickism, hyperpollarization of eurasia, and WORLD WAR FUCKING TWO. Peace was never an option with these dickheads. I wish Vic and others like him would realize that. I don't mean that he should always be spoiling for a fight. Instead, simply make it clear that he's willing to take it right to the nuclear option on anyone that goes after him.

It's as you said, some people need to learn the hard way.
