The only thing I think is worth looking into is how old Shane was when the relationship started.

He said at one point in the Nick stream that he had his own skeletons in his closet didn't he?

Now he might have been talking about his wife, but it could be something else as well, a guy like him would probably not go straight into grooming a child from someone he knows, that is like step 8 out of the "How to get beaten to death in prison" book, there is the possibility of his wife being the second to last in a list of several immoral and/or illegal conducts.

Of course it could be that Shane role-playing as Monica's Ex is the only skeleton in his closet, still would be funny if any paper ran with the story.
