Victor Mignogna v. Funimation Productions, LLC, et al. (2019) - Vic's lawsuit against Funimation, VAs, and others, for over a million dollars.

You know, after every time something happens that makes Vic's counsel look silly, this sort of thing gets said. "It's totally fine, it's completely normal, everyone does it all the time". And...so far, it hasn't been fine. At a certain point, maybe people don't have to give them the benefit of the doubt?
I think this type of shit is what made BHBC have a "We won already" mentality and proceeds to display their own laziness for everyone to see.

It's embarrassing. First is the notary issue, second is the clusterfuck of the TCPA hearing, and now this shit. That's already three strikes, and now I don't think I have much faith in them as much as I do in the beginning. What a shame.

Seriously sam? Open with this? lmao

Like Jaimie doesn't have a crapload of ridiculously stupid tweets floating around.

Hatemongering? lmao

and of course, the GFM. Clearly they're buds because they "vacationed together" in hawaii. Man, these lawyers have been watching stuff.

This isn't normal in any which way and someone trying to justify it as such is exactly the blasé attitude that put this case in appeals to begin with.

Edited for spelling errors. I'm not gonna lose sleep over this or sperg out any more unless a new development comes up, but I feel justified in my lack of faith.

I feel a growing need to retract my statements about professionalism and competence.... This better have a really good explanation for how the fuckup occured.

There is no doubt it IS a fuckup, but I can theorize a few things that COULD make it an understandable one..

I'm hoping there's a reason for it that isn't something to do with their case load. If so, I can be forgiving. I don't like harboring animosity towards those trying to help.

But damn fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

The most likely non-shitty one, at first glance, is that they handed it off to Hsu and Co. with a note saying "We noticed, but it needs to be paid, contact X" and the note got lost in transit.

Shitty, can happen, but is understandable and fixable.

But that is simply more charity than I am willing to extend after the last two fuckups.

I wish that was the case but An Lee has been with them for a while now. Someone could have said something.

And it just occurred to me - you guys did a bunch of their work for them, in terms of researching and archiving people and events. So this hasn't even been as much of a burden on them from the start as it could have been. Sigh.

Maybe KF was too autistic and in the course of doing what we do, no one at BHBC is as invested as the Farms? I imagine there are 4 or 5 people here who pretty well know this case like the back of their hand. Just a thought.

What companies can Vic still work for?

Theoretically, ViZ Media, Bang Zoom! Entertainment, and Sentai Filmworks, to name a few. I don't know any other recording companies.
He can't work for Ocean Studios because he's not Canadian (Ocean prefers Canadian VAs and I think its cheaper for them to do so).
I have no idea who is in New York now since 4K!ds went under, but there are some VAs that don't like him up there.
Crunchyroll is a no-go (Adam Sheehan is there).

Maybe the real lawyers were the kiwis we met along the way.

Do you think the stigma of this whole case will alienate him from those companies? It makes me wonder.

I'm disappointed with how many knee injuries I'm seeing with how fast people are reacting to literally nothing.

At least wait and see if it is something before tearing your anus over it.

Seems like a few folks need to take a step back from the abyss.
Its another fuckup, small and reversible is acknowledged, in a growing chain. Its less knee jerk reaction, more exasperation with what is officially a trend.

It's creating a pattern to fit confirmation bias. Nobody here is in the firm, we don't know why they are doing what they're doing.

No sense in getting pissed off or exhausted when we're extrapolating from incomplete information, that can never and likely will never be made fully available to us.

It's just something to look at, shrug and say "well that's weird but alright." Not something to burst a blood vessel over how they "continue to fuck up". Just wait for the end result, you'll live a lot longer with all that less stress.

Ty/BHBH sent a silly C&D. They totally fucked it up with that response, with “Exhibit _”. They had a train wreck of a hearing. The case was slapped down on very basic grounds. They didn’t pay for the court records.
None of these are strategic choices, they’re just incompetence.

You've been a living demonstration of confirmation bias.

A random power leveling person saying this is totally fine despite there being no logical reason for it, and at least one actual lawyer expressing skepticism? Hmmmm, I'm not inclined to charity here.

Well, it's certainly not "blindly panic" material. It's a tickler mail that gets sent out automatically if you haven't done things by a certain time. That said I don't see similar notices in the appeals filed on or around the same date in the 2DCA, but none of them are TCPA appeals, either.

I wonder if it's possible the deadline to pay for an appeal court thing like that is shorter for TCPA, and BHBC - used to normal schedules - didn't anticipate that, thus the letter? Unless there's some further filing about it when it's paid, though, I imagine we won't even know even if this was paid the day the letter went out.

Also, if court is anything like utility bills or such, even if they paid it already but the letter had already been written and sent, it would still appear and be filed.

Anyway, I find it ridiculous that they could mess it up badly enough to be embarrassed by the letter, but until that deadline passes without it being paid there's honestly no real reason to fuss overly much about it. It's a bad look, maybe it will make the appeals court unimpressed from the outset, but it doesn't technically have any long reaching consequences yet.
